NEWARK -- Along parts of Ferry Street on Thursday, doors remained shuttered, chairs were stacked and newspapers left uncollected on doorsteps at restaurants and businesses.
Some had a message for passers-by: They were closed to support "A Day Without Immigrants," a national boycott meant to highlight the impact immigrants have on the economy.
Storefronts posted signs in English, Spanish and Portuguese that read "Nos unimos a un dia sin immigrantes, CLOSED!" or "We are joining the day without immigrants, CLOSED!"

I’m guessing the only ones that are suffering are the immigrants.
Gee..was it today? Pfft..no one cares
Good. Those businesses lost a day of income. They’ll likely lose a lot more income when people take their money elsewhere. What about their employees who lost a day’s pay?
Thanks for closing. You just put your shop on ICE’s target.
And here it is, 7:24 EST and we haven’t gone under as a Nation!
If they leave, it may create jobs for others we’re paying to stay home and not work. This could be a big win.
Remember what businesses close, and then tell your friends, family, co workers, etc to boycott that business.
They want to act up then fine, so can we.
As for immigrants, well is this illegal immigrants taking a day off, and if so then ICE can get these people the next day. Maybe ICE should set up a hotline of which businesses close down too.
My wife is a floor covering rep...none of their Hispanic installers showed up today. Their foreman called in and said Hispanics were threatened that if they left their houses to go to work, their house would be burned to the ground.
Guessing you didn’t miss them. Me neither. Didn’t go out to eat (never do). Eating a homemade supreme pizza for dinner. Lots cheaper than going out and no dirty hands making it.
Only the illegal alien “immigrants” from south of the border took the day off. All the other immigrants (”a nation of immigrants”) showed up for work today along with the non-immigrant Native Americans. If these morons had done a good job planning their “Illegal Alien Day”, they would have had it fall on Friday. A lot of them could have had a four day weekend. Morons.
With regard to immigration of persons to the U.S.A. from other nations, are we expected to subscribe to the view/opinion/notion that no meaningful distinctions may be drawn between legal and illegal?
In the mean time, when I got to work this morning there were 4 H1B holders from Bangalore waiting to be let in for their training. I guess they did not get the message about the boycott.
Exactly!!
then the foreman is an idiot, or a liar.
IIRC, this is the second “Illegal Alien Day” these clowns have held. The last one was an EPIC FAIL.
A month long would get my attention.
I would boycott those businesses.
1. If they are hiring illegal immigrants they shouldn’t be.
2. It they have hired legal immigrants, no one has a problem with legal immigrants, so why are you closing?
Either way, immigrants will lose work. Nice going.
Good thing this was posted ... didn’t notice anything around here. I guess if you don’t have a bunch of mooching illegals it is not as noticeable.
I suggest a month without customers.
Immigrants, legal or not, are NOT entitled to become citizens. The Country decides when immigrants can become citizens. I think we can do without immigrants becoming citizens for a while. Unless the immigrants can prove they can embrace our culture, I don’t see why we should let them become citizens.
