BIG SUR, Calif. — Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge in Big Sur is starting to fail.

According to CalTrans an active slide has been taking place on the mountainside under the bridge since Saturday. The slide is moving one of two column holding the bridge up and cracks are visible at the top of the post. "Basically the mountainside that it is sitting on is moving, which, causes the column to move," said Heath Johnston with CalTrans.

The problem has the bridge closed to all vehicle traffic and California Highway Patrol is turning people around at Big Sur Station.

Only pedestrians were allowed to cross.

That's crazy! There is no way a pedestrian can get across to safety if that bridge starts to collapse! What are they thinking?

California is becoming an object lesson in Atlas Shrugged.

You’re very welcome. California is a beautiful state. Too bad liberals’ policies in three cities are ruining it for the rest of us.

That is not the bridge of the article.

Here is the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge, also from a KSBW report.

They need to hurry up and secede so they can fix this stuff without being dragged down by the USA.

Thanks. I was wondering why the cracked column shown in post 3 was round, while all of the Bixby Bridge’s columns appeared to be square.

Nah, I only wish it was God’s hand.

The Calfiornia coast, geomorphologically, is a very unstable place. This sort of stuff has been happening ever since I can remember as a kid back in the 50’s.

Just a part of life out there and the aforementioned instability has permeated the populace.

Only pedestrians were allowed to cross

So they decided to let pedestrians die instead of MV occupants...??

Climate Change (along with Trump, the basic force behind all problems) strikes again. Poor Governor Moonbeam. First a dam-dam and now a bridge. If only he had been able to convince more people to install solar, ride bicycles to work, stop heating their homes and vote for Hillary we wouldn’t be in this mess.

I have driven up and down the coast from Carmel to San Louis Obispo many times. That drive is one of the great wonders of the world. I’m betting it will not returned to us anytime soon. Sad to say.

It’s not like these problems just appeared out if the blue. I think you are right, this is a taxpayer scam... prob for pensions unions, dem fund raisers. I thought CA was ready to fly solo... lol.. I think it is also the big Trillion dollar stimulus push.

I didn’t see any round columns, thanks for clearing that up.

Real nice bridge.
