“Ever consider a rescue dog or a mix?”
A lot of people have said that to me over the years, usually with a facial expression generally reserved for child molesters and democrats.
If I get another dog, it will be my last. I’d rather not spend my remaining time with the wrong dog.
I had to give up my Shepherd when I went in the military all those decades ago. There were decades when I could not have a dog because I lacked the space. Can’t keep one on a ship of the line, you know.
Now, finally, I have the space and the time, but—call me a curmudgeon if you like—the heart wants what the heart wants.
Breeders often dump GSD pups with hip dysplasia.
No you are not a curmudgeon...I know because people cal me that LOL. Just wanted to be helpful with idea of mis or rescue, but you know what you know...maybe your relatives will pool resources and give you one as a gift if they are made aware of your wish :) )
I’ve had many dogs that I loved very much. Don’t have one now but close friends got a rescue dog (mixed mutt-lab and pit bull) a few years ago that I see only a couple of times a month but it’s the greatest pet I’ve ever met. A rescue would be the first place I’d go if I was getting a dog.
