I just put this on my fb status

From the Declaration of Independence: "He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance."

This was one of the grievances in 1776 against the government of King George III and now our Federal Government is rife with the same multitude of New Offices that eat out our substance.

The Dissolution of the Department of Education is a good first start to correct this injury and usurpation. I look forward to the transfer of all functions and oversight of elementary and secondary education back to our individual states and citizens.

I wonder how many liberal friends and relatives will have a cow?

OMG.

To good to be true.

Do it. Do it quickly. Now. While the leftists are still trying to figure out which way is up.

This would be a real big WIN! Especially if done quickly.

It would set the pace. Numb the opposition. They wouldn’t know how to react. From this anything would be possible.

The Department of Education has absolutely nothing to do with education. They are merely a bank.

Education should never have been run by the federal government. It wasn’t constitutional when it was created and it still ain’t. Abolish it asap.

Education is not a right of anyone nor an obligation of society to provide, but something parents have to decide how to take care of their own kids. Why should taxpayers be on the hook for education of others? Let parents take responsibility. My property tax goes to fund the useless publik skools that are better off shut down.

We need a national drum beating movement to eliminate fedeeral government involvement in elemenatary and secondary education of America’s children and youth.
There are governmental functions of vital importance and sufficient in scope to keep the feds productively and usefully busy.

The Dept. of Education has NOTHING to do with education.

You're exactly right. What most people who support the DoE don't realize is that it was the Jimmy Carter administration that created the DoE as payback for the teachers unions.

Show me how much government run education since the feds began the DoE in the 1970s...

I have zero debt.

I thought it was about $10 billion. I was astonished when I looked it up. Wiki shows their budget has been over $50 billion every year (except two) since 2010. I don't know of any department whose budget jumps up and down like that: From the Dept of Education web site:
The President's budget request for FY 2017 includes $69.4 billion in discretionary funding, an increase of $1.3 billion over the 2016 appropriation. The Department's elementary and secondary programs annually serve nearly 16,900 school districts and approximately 50 million students attending more than 98,000 public schools and 28,000 private schools. Department programs also provide grant, loan, and work-study assistance to more than 13 million postsecondary students.

That said, it is important to point out that education in America is primarily a State and local responsibility, and ED's budget is only a small part of both total national education spending and the overall Federal budget.

So there you have it...$60 billion is chump change and us peons needn't worry our pretty little heads over such a small fraction of the overall fedzilla budget.
