Chairman: House intel panel won’t investigate Flynn, will probe leaks

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) says he won’t open an investigation into President Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn, citing executive privilege.

But the committee will investigate who leaked the story that led to Flynn’s resignation and why Trump's national security adviser was being recorded, CNN reported Tuesday.

Flynn resigned late Monday night amid cascading controversy over a discussion he had before Trump took office with a Russian diplomat about President Obama’s sanctions on the country.

The Washington Post first reported details of the conversation, which the New York Times said stemmed from a wire tap of the Russian diplomat.

ADVERTISEMENT Flynn initially denied the conversation took place, and Vice President Mike Pence vouched for him in a nationally televised interview.

But Flynn later said he could not recall whether he’d discussed the sanctions before Trump took office.

Flynn’s conflicting story and Democratic uproar over his remarks to a foreign diplomat, which were not made in any official capacity, ultimately led to his resignation.

Democrats are demanding an investigation into the matter, which ties into their suspicions about the Trump administration’s alleged close ties to Moscow.

"He was fired for lying to Mike Pence about it."

He said he didn't remember all the details of the conversation, just as Scooter Libby was ruined for not remembering the details of an old conversation with Tim Russert. Only Hillary is allowed not to remember things.

Chance of getting information out of the intelligence people is zero. This investigation is wheel-spinning.

If history is any indication I doubt they will.

If this discussion happened, and was known to have happened, before Flynn assumed his role in the administration, why did it not come out during the hearings? Was the media (or the leaker) sitting on it until Flynn was appointed, so that they could “get” someone in the Trump administration and embarrass Trump?

Such congressional investigations are generally coverups—they’ll make sure that info doesn’t get out, anyone in need of immunity to keep them from an actual court case gets it, etc.

That’s what he should have said and he should not have given in. It’ll get much worst now. You have to tell them where to go

"Couldn’t remember a call that happened since November?"

I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch last Wednesday. I couldn't tell you exactly what topics I discussed with everyone I know over the last three months. I could tell you some of them with some certainty, but not all, and I might get mixed up whether I talked about Topic "Z" with Person "A" or Person "B."

I can tell you with certainty that I never discussed medieval Japanese literature with anyone, and I can tell you with certainty that I DID talk about Trump with several people, but I might not remember exactly what I said about Trump to any specific individual.

I had read on a 4chan page that it was exactly that- a CIA ‘hit job’.

She needs to go back home to IRAN... she doesn’t belong here and NEVER DID.

I like the way the Liberals are questioning the integrity of Trump’s appointees and cabinet people... AS IF Valerie Jarrett was squeaky clean or something! Ha!

Flynns resignation is pure “rope-a-dope”.

He resigned to distract whoever did but, they will be found, prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and shot at dawn.

This is a priority focus for Congress and law enforcemrnt. First , Flynn did nothing. Iy is not a violation of any law.
What happened here was NSA of CIA ILLEGAL wiretap without FISA warrant on a US citizen, doing his job. That is a FELONY!! This is an attempted Coup d’ Tat on our elected president by leftist traitors. Flynn quit because he made a false statement to Pense ( AND NO OTHER REASON), It makes perfect since that he was talking to his Russian Counterpart getting ready to take his position. He had no authority and spoke with no authority and everyone knew it .Trump should have REJECTED his resignation!! But in the mean time we need very a swift and strong crackdown on those insurgents in those agencies that committed these felonies to undermine our great president. I am certain we will see this very soon. Our form of government is at stake as well as the constitution of the Unites States!!

Agreed. This opens the door for Trump to do some massive swamp draining.

Just like any terror attack that happens while the Ninth Circus is booting around his EO will open the door for him to reform the Fed Judiciary.

Here's a real-life example: several people in my local bar know that I have an elderly mother who lives in a local nursing home. The other day, a woman asked how my mother was doing, and I told her that my mother had recently been in the hospital for a few days. The woman reminded me that I had already told her that a few days earlier. I knew I had mentioned it to some people in the bar, but not to her specifically.

Compare the media reaction to this story with the way they reacted to Loretta Lynch’s tarmac meeting with Bill Clinton during a time when Hillary was under investigation. With Flynn, they pounced; with Lynch, they yawned. Flynn resigned, Lynch did not.

It is routine for Russian lines to be tapped. Back in the 80’s all calls in DC were recorded by the NSA according to legend.

IOW, Flynn was never the problem. He was just taken down because he was standing between them and Trump.
