Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Tuesday that Michael Flynns resignation as national security adviser highlights dysfunction in President Trumps White House and raises fresh questions about the commander in chiefs relations with Russia.
McCain, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, praised Flynns invaluable contributions in the fight against terrorism in a written statement released hours after the retired Army lieutenant general resigned.
At the same time, General Flynns resignation is a troubling indication of the dysfunction of the current national security apparatus, the Arizona Republican said.
General Flynns resignation also raises further questions about the Trump administrations intentions toward Vladimir Putins Russia, including statements by the president suggesting moral equivalence between the United States and Russia despite its invasion of Ukraine, annexation of Crimea, threats to our NATO allies, and attempted interference in American elections, McCain said.
The senator has been a vocal critic of Trumps relatively soft line on Russia, as well as his campaign-trail statements in favor of resuming the use of interrogation tactics that fit international definitions of torture. Doing so would violate U.S. law, and the president has suggested that he would defer to Defense Secretary James Mattis, who opposes such methods.

Says the guy who lost 4 planes, contributed to blowing up the USS Forrestal, and couldn’t beat Obama.
John McCain is the original dysfunction in the US Senate.
Trump needs to show everyone who is boss. Otherwise, this is going to get out of hand quickly.
Letting a little Seattle judge crack the door open on Trump’s momentum and authority is proving to be a disaster. Until that happened, we had the ball, the momentum.
We’re very close to an “uncomfortable” situation in this country.
F’ERS NEED TO KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT!! Instead of supporting and backing their party president they are backstabbing him left and right... I’m so sick of it ...sick SICK! F’in backstabbing Benedict Arnold traitors!!!!
Democrats gather round their president so they will be right there to defend him when he is under attack.
Republicans gather round their president so they will be right there when they see an opening to attack him.
Shut up McCain.. you’re embarrassing.
FYJM! You worthless P.O.S. TRAITOR!
Youre a bitch.
Regards
Lyndsey, Hussein and the Muslim Brotherhood
Neither side think you are worth a $h&t.
Shut up, Juan. You LOST, so why should President Trump take advice from you?
Ignore McCain. - Flynn most likely saw that the
“Nattering Nabobs of Negativity” were just gonna keep on
attacking Flynn. He didn’t want to be a distraction &
PRESIDENT TRUMP didn’t want him to be a distraction at this
early point.
Also, if the NNN’s launch their bile at his next nominees;
the NNN’s are going to finally begin to really look lame.
- McCain just needs to go on over & join up with his
beloved Democrat Party.
I don’t remember who coined the name “NATTERING NABOBS
OF NEGATIVITY”; but I like it. MAGA!
I’d like to hear Trump say something like this when he wants votes for a SC nominee or cabinet post- “we hope to have the support of senators from the other party, such as Senator Schumer and Senator McCain...”
Any dysfunction was a result of there not being timely confirmation of Trump’s appointees. Things seem to be shaping up already with AG Sessions in place.
At least McCain will be dead soon...desperately trying to be relative before he takes his last breath...what a freaking slimeball this guy is.
McCain is an expert in disfunction.
For even more hilarity this morning on Fox, Ralph Peters thinks Trump should appoint LINDSAY GRAHAM, as National Security Adviser. “He would be marvelous”. He knows there have been issues between graham and Trump, but Trump reached out and smoothed things over. (Paraphrased)
Senator Dysfunction can take a hike.
No, it does not show dysfunction, you contemptible jerk, it shows the extent that people like you and others will go to subvert this presidency.
Trump is a fast learner.
Meanwhile, we inherited 20 trillion in debt, an unbalanced budget, a military in disarray, chaos world-wide thanks to val/jar-obama-dems,open borders with who knows how many terror types walking across,95 million out of work, and on and on it goes. None of this is discussed only the possiblity that one of Trumps recent appointments "may" have done a misstep. Screw all of them.
