Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Tuesday that Michael Flynns resignation as national security adviser highlights dysfunction in President Trumps White House and raises fresh questions about the commander in chiefs relations with Russia.
McCain, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, praised Flynns invaluable contributions in the fight against terrorism in a written statement released hours after the retired Army lieutenant general resigned.
At the same time, General Flynns resignation is a troubling indication of the dysfunction of the current national security apparatus, the Arizona Republican said.
General Flynns resignation also raises further questions about the Trump administrations intentions toward Vladimir Putins Russia, including statements by the president suggesting moral equivalence between the United States and Russia despite its invasion of Ukraine, annexation of Crimea, threats to our NATO allies, and attempted interference in American elections, McCain said.
The senator has been a vocal critic of Trumps relatively soft line on Russia, as well as his campaign-trail statements in favor of resuming the use of interrogation tactics that fit international definitions of torture. Doing so would violate U.S. law, and the president has suggested that he would defer to Defense Secretary James Mattis, who opposes such methods.

Send his ass to the Hague to explain his war mongering crimes with Libya and Syria.
Oh yes— it was “a foreign contact” of McCains that handed him the bogus Russian produced dossier. Remember? McCain is a bronzed a@@ SOB lying manchurian candidate- period.
mclame defines “dysfunction”. Thanks AZ voters for this drooling piece of garbage.
I can’t tell you just how much I dislike McNuts! FUJMcNuts!
....and taking money from Soros means your a whore
Agreed
No, it's not. Trump isn't a Republican. He's an independent candidate who hijacked the Republican nomination process to get on the ballot in the 2016 election.
That's one big reason why a lot of us supported him.
As a guy who is effectively an "unaffiliated" President, he has no reason to expect partisan loyalty in Congress.
Having said that, I can only laugh at what McCain is saying here. This guy is one of the most dysfunctional people ever to serve in government, and personifies every defect of the Republican Party that drove GOP voters to Trump.
On top of that MC-LAME doesn’t know what it feels like to Win! He just wallows along bumping into things as he travels, wakes up then goes back to sleep. Sleep tight little buddy we’ll take care of things from now on.
Actually, we agree. Why I thought it was inconceivable is that the person saying it is so stupidly showing his hand.
But then, it’s McCain. The member of the Keating five that was not prosecuted because they thought he was just to stupid to know what was actually going on.
PLEASE SOMEONE ASK:
“Senator McCain what are you doing to help President Trump?
You seem ready to criticize him every chance you get. Will you ever support and help him?”
‘Cept McCain would have made Mary Jo drive the Olds to the beach to get his freak on. And made her pay for the booze too.
Right. If you had said “inconceivable” in your post I wouldn’t have responded as I did. I’m 100% on board with you. Didn’t McCain graduate at the bottom of his class from the U.S. Naval Academy?
Go back to Manchuria.
“I am quite sure McCain was involved in the coordination of this wedge issue used to attack Trump.”
At least McStain is a known entity. He’s on the never trust list along with every demoncrat. It’s the aholes in the Trump admin still loyal to the kabuki party that concerns me.
I don’t trust any of them.
Priebus? Pence?
McCain just another chair warming senator who never has anything wise to offer only whine.
Something like that. Don’t tell anybody, but when Trump came right out and said that McCain is no war hero (or something to that effect) was when I started joining his side.
I’m so fed up. I’m at a point where I just want to officially split this country in two. I’m sick of the double standard. No one resigned over the VA, gunning running or IRS scandals. The rats never resign and Flynn shouldn’t have either.
