OROVILLE Immediate evacuations have been ordered for residents of the low levels of Oroville and areas downstream, according to officials with the California Department of Water Resources.
Officials say a hazardous situation is developing with the Oroville Dam auxiliary spillway. The operation of the auxiliary spillway has led to severe erosion that could lead to a failure of the auxiliary spillway.
Officials are anticipating a failure of the auxiliary spillway at Oroville Dam within the next 60 minutes.

Lake web cam, Emerg spill-way isn’t in the view
If the spillway fails won’t that fail the rest of the dam?
Somewhere outside of California.
They have what they expect to be an imminent failure of the axillary spillway, said Mike Smith, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. What theyre expecting is as much as 30 vertical feet of the top of the spillway could fail and could fail within one to two hours. We dont know how much water that means, but we do know is thats potentially 30 feet of depth of Lake Oroville.
The real threat is downstream at Natomas:

We could see a New Orleans in Katrina scale event, though probably with far less fatalities and far more property damage.
Its an earthen dam. You come to your own conclusions. And I aint saying that to be a smart ass.
210,000 acre feet of water..
Sacramento has large amounts of its urban area BELOW levies that hold back the river that this water will flow through.
If the dam breaches, there isnt gonna be a good time to be had from that dam all the way to the ocean.
Another thread if anyone is interested in reading thru it.

So, California ....if people are from Mexico, they probably would want to leave right now.
Is it just me or is that webcam at the top of the lake so you can’t see anything that’s going on on the spillway below? (does it rotate views?)
(ps thanks for posting it -> I’m not complaining ... just curious)

DAM
Trump is attempting to flood the mexicans out. This is Hitlerian.
All of that hot air out of Sacramento caused all of the snow to melt.
I lived in Live Oak downstream.
I have seen over 70k cfs outflow thru regular spillway which developed a huge hole the other day. Apparantly they are releasing 100k cfs ...imagine if you will 100,000 basket balls going thru a hole per second thats a heck of a lot of water
but thats controlled release..if the overflow spillway goes over there is no release gate it just runs over and as it erodes below ( the dam has not been this full in its 48 year life) if it fails I have no idea other than you are looking at over 3,500,000 Acre feet of water an oroville dam is earthen fill 700 feet high...highest earth filled dam in USA as far as a know
Pray for the people down stream...pray that they dont get further rains or snow melt above the dam until it stabilzes...
this falls on Governor moonbeam and his stupid train to nowhere instead of building more reservoirs while the state continued mushroom growth.
I know people in the Gridley , Live Oak area.

There's a good chance that it won't - the concrete main spillway is between the structure at risk and the main dam. It may depend on whether the water goes straight down to the river, or cuts over to the area that's been dug out by the failure of the main spillway runoff, and then eats back uphill toward the dam.
But it really won't matter if the main dam is still standing if a 700 foot wall of water finds another path to the downstream areas.

Oh my gosh.
THIS is your legacy.
(Okay, the choo-choo to nowhere, as well.)
