I lived in Live Oak downstream.
I have seen over 70k cfs outflow thru regular spillway which developed a huge hole the other day. Apparantly they are releasing 100k cfs ...imagine if you will 100,000 basket balls going thru a hole per second thats a heck of a lot of water
but thats controlled release..if the overflow spillway goes over there is no release gate it just runs over and as it erodes below ( the dam has not been this full in its 48 year life) if it fails I have no idea other than you are looking at over 3,500,000 Acre feet of water an oroville dam is earthen fill 700 feet high...highest earth filled dam in USA as far as a know
Pray for the people down stream...pray that they dont get further rains or snow melt above the dam until it stabilzes...
this falls on Governor moonbeam and his stupid train to nowhere instead of building more reservoirs while the state continued mushroom growth.
I know people in the Gridley , Live Oak area.

Absolutely true, and the brown one was repeatedly warned over decades.

“5:52 p.m.
Releases through the main spillway at Oroville Dam have been boosted to 100,000 cubic feet per second from 55,000 cfs in hopes of easing pressure on the emergency spillway before a failure occurs, officials said Sunday night.”
Why were they even using the ‘emergency’ spillway when the regular spillway wasn’t at maximum? Poor operation.
Good link for updates.
