I remember spending Christmas Eve at my paternal grandparents. They came from Italy. Gram would be cooking and my Gramp, Dad and Uncles would be playing cards at the kitchen table. There would be some loud, innocent yelling among the men..in Italian. My Gram would stop cooking, go to the table, hit it and say, “ speaka da English..speaka da English.” She knew that it was the right thing to do.

upon his insistence. They were Americans now.

Exactly. Back then the belief was in order to get ahead one must speak English.

I was not much of a computer user until I won a computer at a work party. I then learned how to shop on line. LOL I got so good at it that people at work came to me every year around Christmas looking for gifts they couldn't find on their own. My husband doesn't see the good of my speciality, needless to say. LOL I have been retired for a year and a friend at my former work texted (couple weeks ago) that she needed a particular cleaner and would I find it and buy it for her. I said sure.

Now to get back to the question I came here and read the news every morning before work. Which was around 5:00am every morning. I did not take time out to learn how to post or think I knew enough to join in the discussion. THEN the election started. It drew me in. Late at night freepersup and Jane helped me learn how to post pictures and information. They gave me confidence and the know how needed. Ray pushes me to look for information in order to lighten the load for him. This is certainly a special group.

Did Obama have color guard and such a formal reception for arriving dignitaries? I love it but don’t remember it. Of course the press never covered every minute of Obama’s regime either.

Exactly.

There are important things to worry about and attend to now, but perhaps after the 2018 election, Congress can tackle passing a law the English is the official language of the US. It is amazing and distressing to me that we have ballots in various languages. If you can’t speak and read English, you shouldn’t vote - Period.

Hmm...

Come to think of it, I don’t remember a color guard for the ISRAELI Prime Minister.

Nikk just talked with a friend who is a naturalist
Regarding birds flying into windows
Have you ever walked into a restaurant and thought the area was larger than it was because of a large mirror. It’s the same principle: the sun outside and darkness inside creates a mirror for the birds. She suggests using a bright light shining on the window from the inside

The press was always so caught up in the Rock Star Obama and ignoring the servicemen that I don’t think we ever saw the men outside. The camers were always on THE GREAT ONE!

They don’t think it’s necessary yet. It’s still very small according to last years MRI. It was first diagnosed 30 years ago and was believed to be in a fold. Am going to ask tech look a bit closer at fold to see if we are deing with an iceberg type tumor

"Very difficult to find shoes in my size."

I have the same problem. My size is a 5 1/2 WIDE. Can't find them anywhere not even online. I did find one pair and ordered them, but a 5 1/2 wide made in China is NOT the same as my 5 1/2 wide. :-(

Try New Balance on line. I have two pair of every day shoe with Velcro. Their width are easy to adjust. (For me it’s tighten). Once you try them on in a shoe store, you can order on line for half the price Not for dress but great for everyday

...or think I knew enough to join in the discussion.

This was the biggest reason for my lurking for 2 years after I found FR back in 2000. I was quite intimidated.

There is quite a difference in the body language, the facial expressions and overall demure with DJT and Tradeau over Abe.

New Balance is my favorite shoe especially for walking.

Son who has special problems was told to wear NB, he goes through 2 pairs a year but doesn’t have the feet stress problems he used to have.
