They quote the following tweet: Estimating public expenditures of $162.3M for early January storms, @JerryBrownGov asks President Trump for a federal disaster declaration.

“I don’t think you understand.”
What I understand is the politics of Trump withholding disaster funds, and how this would be perceived by others.
So I am not sure what kind of “victory” it would be for Trump to do what you propose, inasmuch as there would be fodder for Congress to impeach him for not doing his duty. You do realize that Congress is still controlled by the political establishment, and they would love to find a reason to remove him??
We need to deal with the issue of illegals now (see my recent comments in other threads), but withholding disaster funds would be immoral and bad policy. Let Obama alone have the legacy of being a vindictive CinC who punishes people who did not vote for him.
Absolutely ridiculous to even think about withholding disaster funds.
If President Trump goes down this road, he will lose tremendous support.
Including mine.
Trump would never be impeached for not approving federal disaster funds.
He also won’t be impeached for the rest of what he’s legally allowed to do or choose not to do.
I suppose you want him to cave on half of his stances so that he’s not “impeachment-worthy” by the Republican House and Republican Senate? Really?
“I suppose you want him to cave on half of his stances so that hes not impeachment-worthy by the Republican House and Republican Senate? Really?”
I’m not sure what it says about you, that you draw the conclusion from my warning that the political establishment would like to see Trump impeached (a concept which is obvious to any conservative with an IQ over ~70), with “secamndmt would like to see Trump cave on half his stances”.
Notwithstanding that Trump is probably not a faithful Christian, probably not socially conservative, a possibly not a constitutionalist, he may end up achieving more in those areas than any President in my lifetime. So, with respect to conservative policy and the Constitution and religious liberty and the 2A, I am a big supporter.
Anxiously awaiting (not really) your next conclusion.
Simply put, I don’t share your disaster funds impeachment concerns for Donald Trump.
To think he has to moderate down to stop impeachment is crazy talk.
“To think he has to moderate down to stop impeachment is crazy talk.”
Who said he has to “moderate down”? Whatever that means.
Withholding disaster funds is NOT a conservative position. It is what Obama did. Do you understand the concept of a Pyrrhic victory? Save a few $100 million now to make a point, then be roasted by the media through to election day 2018, when even more illegals could vote (they may well see it as a survival issue), and end up losing trillions in the progressive landslide?
Seriously, exactly what is achieved by what you propose? What about conservatives who live in the affected areas?
I say leave this disaster funding issue alone, and send 30,000 soldiers to the border. Wipe the voter lists, get rid of motor voter, enforce e-verify, 15% tax on foreign cash transfers targeted to folks who make cash income, build the wall where feasible, deport criminal aliens as a start, prosecute alien vote fraud hard (then deport with permanent ban on re-entry) etc. These are things that a majority of the population will see as simply enforcing our laws. Withholding disaster funds will be seen as vindictive by many.
The federal government is not required to give any money for any disaster.
Where do you get off thinking that Trump’s unwillingness to give out money is something that will get him impeached? You haven’t provided anything to begin to cover your position. It sure isn’t in the Constitution.
“The federal government is not required to give any money for any disaster.”
No kidding. I have read Art 1 Section 8.
And yet, approving it for states with supporters and denying for so-called blue states will be seen as abuse of power. It was seen as abuse of power when Obama did it.
“Where do you get off thinking that Trumps unwillingness to give out money is something that will get him impeached? You havent provided anything to begin to cover your position. It sure isnt in the Constitution.”
You really are deluded if you think that Constitutionality is any impediment to the political establishment. What is Constitutional about the federal reserve, or myriad federal departments? And yet they are still there.
If there was a fund established for a project to cause California to sink into the Pacific Ocean, I’d donate a few month’s pay.
Trump: “ Yeah, I’ll get right on that............................................. : )
President Trump should be gracious, helpful and do everything he can to help....It would make the Left look even more foolish.
Trump to Moonbeam: Go fix your own problems, commie!
Moonbeam, when you and your left idiots and mediots go CalExit, there is no more US Federal Money., Nada!
You will have to get your funding from Mexico.
Of course CalExit will lose the good conservative counties to the State of Jefferson.
So Moonbeam, enjoy your bonding with Mexico until they/you declare war against America. 8-10 hours later you and your new side lose.
Then, you become a territory without any state benefits.
Also, CalExit will be the end of the Democrat party re any national elections. They can’t win without your illegal voters. So your former rat buddies in Congress will be broke and will hate CalExit more than the Deplorables do.
Enjoy the ride Moonbeam, your days are rapidly ending politically wise.
