Meet Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch's ultra-liberal church St. John's Episcopal Church is led by a pastor who proudly attended the anti-Trump Women's March in Denver the day after the President's inauguration Rev. Susan Springer has said she is pro-gay marriage and offers blessings to same-sex couples Another member of the clergy is outspoken about the need for gun control The church's Rev. Ted Howard also signed a letter slamming the 'disrespectful rhetoric' directed at Islam as Trump floated a ban on Muslim immigrants Church authorities also appear to be strongly in favor of environmental initiatives and added solar panels to the roof because of 'climate crisis' If Gorsuch is confirmed, he will renew the Supreme Court's Christian majority and join as the only non-Catholic member

From the column, the “Rev. Ted Howard [from the church Gorsuch is a member] also signed a letter slamming the ‘disrespectful rhetoric’ directed at Islam as Trump floated a ban on Muslim immigrants...”
Is this not what Gorsuch himself has done toward the Trump ‘tweets’?
While there could be a liberal false flag effort to derail this nomination, it appears Gorsuch is following after the positions of those in his own social network (church).
Even if he is a strict Constitutionalist, are we willing to take the chance with a position which cannot be touched by voters once appointed?
To me this is stupid!
Not true, many stay in that church with hoping to bring change to it.
How do you expect a church like that to have any chance of change if it’s abandoned? If my church suddenly took a turn, I would work as hard as I could to get it back on track. The members deserve that much,
Could his record be such that he’s been waiting to become the next Souter?
This is a huge wake up call for Trump and he should withdraw the nomination now.
Could he be a mole and NEVER expected his words against Trump would be leaked, because he was talking to someone on the left?
Very, VERY odd that he would say this. Someone like Justice Thomas would NEVER make a comment like this to a liberal senator. Something is very off.
This Pastor doesn’t sound much worse than Southern Baptist Convention chief Richard Land.
Hope? The ECUSA is beyond hope. If you’re not doing daily prayer vigils with your compatriots in your church you are casting pearls before swine. ECUSA is a thoroughly corrupted organization. My advice is to flee as fast as you can.
“sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” ;-)
I attend a Catholic church in the Chicago suburbs with an outspoken pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, and anti-Obama pastor.
If Gorsuch attended an Episcopalian church in Colorado with a similarly conservative pastor, I'd have no complaints about his religious faith, and I don't know of any other FReepers who would condemn him for that, either. Not all Episcopalian churches are liberal just because the head of their church worldwide is.
The fact Gorsuch CHOOSES to attend a liberal church in his hometown IS troubling, however. (especially since there is a more conservative Episcopalian church in the SAME town as him!)
>> He said he would appoint pro-life judges who would overturn Roe. Gorsuch doesnt seem to be the type. <<
Bizarre thing, Tucker Carlson and others are claiming the Gorsuch appointment means those of us who doubted Trump would appoint "pro-life judges in the Scalia mold" now "owe Trump an apology"
Sure, and those of us who doubted Obama would have a "humble" foreign policy that doesn't "bully other countries" must owe him an apology, too!
You and I both know that the roman church overall is not conservative and yet Catholics continue to attend....even folks at FR. What if you priest wasn’t proline? Would you switch religions?
The problem is not any specific ECUSA church - as if he chose his parish poorly.
The problem is that ECUSA is literally satanic, there is a professor at their flagship divinity school who preaches that abortion is a sacrament, they are radically pro-gay and pro-trans - rectors and even bishops have been expelled from ECUSA for even a hint of disagreement.
It is an evil, dark, pro-death monstrosity and to remain in it -whoever your own rector happens to be - is a sign of deep spiritual sickness.
I would rather he was a Muslim.
I assume you mean pro-life, but I will be happy to answer that question.
The church I was baptized at and attended as a child now a young polish immigrant pastor who IS pro-life. I no longer attend there, and the church is not very conservative, but it is rare to find any Catholic priest who is not pro-life. Simply put, even the American Roman Catholic is far more conservative overall than the EPUSA is.
The church I currently attend has an outspoken pro-life priest who regularly gives homilies about the issue and is part of a five-parish pro-life ministry that does a concelebrated mass in solidarity for the March for Life each year. One of the reasons I joined that parish is because I wanted a pastor who would stand up for conservative values. In many ways, the priest is to the right of ME on social issues.
In the event I joined a parish that ever appointed a priest who was clearly NOT pro-life, I would leave and find another nearby Catholic parish whose pastor IS pro-life.
In the event I ended up in a church with a "priest" that preaches views like Gorsuch's "womyn" priest (goes to the Woman's March, has a "LGBTQ rights" outreach program, champions gun control, blesses gay "marriages", etc.), I would be gone in a New York Minute. I'd probably leave after the homily and not make it thru a single service.
Hope that answers the question.
How are you feeling about the current pope?
I also think the issue of who is leader of a church denomination worldwide vs. who is pastor of a person's local church, makes a huge difference, and FReepers who claim the issues are the same are either confused or flat out being dishonest.
If Trump were to name a Southern Baptist nominee, I wouldn't hold it against him or her that the current leader of the SBC worldwide happens to be an illegal alien hugger. However, if that person choose to attend a local church in Georgia with an ultra liberal pastor who preached about "Transgender rights" every week, I WOULD be concerned about a "conservative" judge who happily attended such a church.
If Trump were to name a Catholic nominee, I wouldn't hold it against him or her that the current leader of the Catholic Church worldwide preaches about the evils of global warming all the time. However, if that person choose to join "Father" Michael Pfleger's "Catholic parish" in Chicago and happily listen to Pfleger's insane rants calling on his parishioners to murder gun shop owners every week, I WOULD be alarmed about a "conservative" judge who happily attended such a church.
The fact that the United Church of Christ worldwide is one of the most liberal protestant denominations and the leader of their organization is a leftist stooge wouldn't even make me assume that any President who was a member of the UCC is an anti-American slimeball. But the fact that Obama choose to join a "hate whitey" church in Chicago who pastor preached "God Damn America" every week while Obama sat their in the pews gave me great concern that Obama did not have our best interests at heart.
So, although the Episcopalians worldwide are very liberal, I do not paint them all with the same brush or assume they are liberal because the current head of the church worldwide in liberal. But the fact any "conservative" judge would happily attend an ultra-liberal church with a far-left pastor when there's a more conservative Episcopalian church a few miles away from him is deeply troubling to me.
