... massive leaks have revealed Microsoft is working on a brand new Windows platform and it is unlike anything we have seen before
Dubbed Windows Cloud, the references to the mysterious operating system first broke last week via code references in a new beta for the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update. Microsoft immediately told CNet "We have nothing to share", but now the floodgates have opened.
So what is Windows Cloud?
In a nutshell: a stripped down version of Windows 10 designed only to run Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps - aka apps designed to run on both desktop and mobile devices. Any attempt to run standard desktop programs on Windows Cloud results in the warning message: The app youre trying to run isnt designed for this version of Windows.

I'm not. This is one more step towards MSFT's goal of having, "Windows as a service."
And yes, the article misspelled willfully.
Win ping.
Too late. I’m already gone Linux/Android/iOS.
I may follow you to Linux if I ever get tired on Win 7.
let them handjob themselves out of the industry. frigging govt snoop enabling pawns. good riddance when companies bet on godawful ideas.
Bring back Windows XP! The greatest OS evah!
So they are gonna sell a vt100 terminal with better graphics.
AMEN! BUMP!!!!!
As someone else posted on this site, I will keep using my Windows 7 until they pry it from my cold, dead, fingers ....
Exactly.
VT100 redux.
With less security.
Yeah, I’ll get right on that. After I tire of Win7 and install Win8, then 8.1, then 10. Nope, guess not.
Dropped Windows over a decade ago.
Too glitchy, too prone to viruses and malware, spent too much time repairing mine and then all my friends` machines.
Apple, for now. Apple`s big suck is they make it so you cannot install any new OS into an old Apple product unless you do a semi-complicated hack to force it to accept.
Speaking as someone who has supported everything from 3.1 to present 10 build 16xx - no. XP wasn’t.
its meant to take on Chrome OS on the low end cheapo laptops. I doubt we will see it as a main stream OS, unless it sales like hot cakes then all bets are off. Their latest strategy has turned the company around financially so I wouldnt write them off.
As a person who used a VT100/102/102 terminal for many years, that's interesting. It's like we're going full circle.
Memories...
XP hauled ass, admit it!
Buckle up for the ride down folks...
Depends on what you define as old - 8 year old machines (and in some cases older) can still run the latest version of OS X. Try installing Windows 10 on a mainstream PC that old and watch the “fun” you get.
Usually - not always, but usually - Apple has a good reason for their model breaks for new OSes, often, “The older hardware could run it, but the user experience is really going to suck.”
I think this will be the end of windows
Vista was far worse. 7 was better than XP. 8 was a return to the garbage bin, 8.1 was an attempt to get out of the bin that didn’t work and 10 was so ‘good’ they had to force it on users.
