BALTIMORE (WJZ) After being robbed a handful of times in the past few months, one Baltimore coffee shop is no longer accepting cash to stop the robberies and keep their staff safe.
Nowadays, many people dont carry cash in their wallets day-to-day, and at Park Cafe in Bolton Hill, cash payments are no longer on the menu.
Were not going to accept cash anymore, said Park Cafe & Coffee owner David Hart. Im going to take that out of the equation.
Park Cafe was robbed five times from October to January. While the armed suspect is now behind bars, those crimes pushed Hart to ditch the cash drawer altogether. (snip)
Loyola assistant professor J.P. Krahel tells WJZs Devin Bartolotta that a cashless society could leave some behind.
The problem is, going cashless tends to benefit the wealthier members of society and tends to hurt the poorer ones, said Krahel.
But for this Baltimore business, cash is taking a back seat to safety.

Maybe Mayor Mouth-Breather can help. What say you, Ms. Rawlings-Blake? ...*crickets chirping*
Isn’t “Café and Coffee” redundant, too?
.
Baltimore, crime capital of the Yeast coast?
Figgers!
What are they going to do when the plastic no longer works? (soon, I’m sure)

She is no longer in office.
Let the help get carry permits so they can protect their tips.
“This note is legal tender for all debts public and private.”
I wonder if you could require them to take cash, and if they refuse, then just don’t pay.

More elitist nonsense, just like “voter ID is racist”. Going cashless includes ATM and EBT cards, not just credit cards and ApplePay and PayPal and Bitcoin. I doubt there are many poor people out there without an ATM card or an EBT card.
This hurts women and minorities hardest, and is racist and myso(however you spell it) gnoyist.
Isnt Café and Coffee redundant, too?

“A.T.M. machine”, “P.I.N. Number”, “I’ll have it with Au Jus”, “I thought to myself”, “dumb ass liberals”.
Add some more.
I agree.
It is definitely racist.
How dem yunguns supposed to make a living if you take robbery out of the mix.
I’ve rarely ever been in back of a black person in the grocery line who didn’t use cash.

Be very cautious.
You could get arrested for disturbing the peace, and that would mess up your life in a big way.
Did the author get past 8th grade English?
“Chai tea” is an obvious one.
No Cash, just EBT Cards.
They may do so little cash business that it will make sense for them to put a NO CASH sign in the window and forego what small amount of business they lose, if they lose any.
I generally pay cash in a place like that, but I wouldn’t have to. I don’t think my kid pays cash for anything, I mean ANYTHING, it’s all on the debit card.

“I wonder if you could require them to take cash...”
I’ve wondered that myself, do you know? Is that what that means, “you must accept this item in payment”, or does it mean “this item is completely acceptable as payment”?
Fixed
Cash is guaranteed. You can also haggle folks that are selling stuff like tools, parts, trucks, firearms, etc. Ever been at the gas station during a bad night time thunderstorm, and people paying card can’t get the payments to go through? Cash can just as easily be stolen as card, yes, but cards can be replaced, cash can’t. If somebody gets past my reflexes, I suppose they might get my cash, but I’m going to hurt them very badly in the process.
I believe that it means it must be accepted to settle all debts. But if the seller refuses to sell to cash customers, it may be that do debt has occurred. Now, if he gives you the coffee and asks for payment, the debt is there then I think he legally has to accept cash.
