Republicans need Jeff Sessions to stay in the Senate just a little longer (DeVos needs his vote)

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump is eager for Jeff Sessions to become his attorney general, but not a moment too late.

Trump is pushing his final Cabinet nominees through the Senate, including Sessions, but Republicans are staggering the confirmation votes to keep the Alabama senator in his seat for as long as they need him.

And for now, Republicans need his vote. After sitting out the confirmation process for his fellow Trump nominees, Sessions emerged Thursday to cast a key committee vote on behalf of Mick Mulvaney, the President's pick to run the Office of Management and Budget. The Senate Budget Committee only has a one-vote GOP majority so if Sessions sat out, Republicans wouldn't have had to votes to advance Mulvaney's nomination.

Wouldn’t the Republican gov of Alabama be replacing Sessions until 2018? Why would he have to stay. New senator can be seated within hours

I was thinking about that... as much as they need him as the AG, they need him in the Senate right now.

Yes, it permits them to *allow* one more R Senator to cast a ‘no’ vote.
Of course it costs the Senator to vote ‘no’, but if he/she thinks it worth the price then the Party can deal.

"I believe it would be a conflict of interest for you to vote on other Cabinet secretaries as they are nominated by the president, who is also your boss," Sen. Richard Blumenthal told Sessions at his confirmation hearing.

What a load of BS coming from the Dim Blumenthal. Sessions should vote on every nominee, including himself. Otherwise, the people of Alabama would be deprived of the representation of two senators to which every state is entitled.

Needs his vote because of “backstabber” republicans named Collins and Lewendowski. GOP female clone twins of McCain and Graham.

While we do need Sessions in the Senate, the nation is burning down on the streets.

We need our attorney general very badly.

Exactly l’ll bet the 2 traitors thought they sunk DeVos because Sessions would not be there or they worked with the Rats to delay the AG vote another blanking week.

Okay fine then why didn’t they do the DeVos vote now? I read that has been pushed out into next week.

I didn’t know there was a Senator Lewandowski. There is a Senator Murkowski from Alaska, though.

I suspect that if any other Republicans were going to vote against DeVos, they would have informed McConnell by now, and DeVos would have withdrawn her nomination.

Indeed, I suspect this would has transpired before she was cleared by the ethics people, allowing her to say the reason she was withdrawing was difficulty in disentangling herself from her and her husbands many investments that pose a conflict of interest to her.

She has now crossed that point. The vote on her confirmation is now on line.

And, McConnell is holding back the vote on Session’s confirmation until the DeVos confirmation is resolved. No doubt as soon as the DeVos confirmation is resolved, McConnell will schedule the vote on Sessions so his replacement can be in place in time to deal with the Supreme Court nominee.

Let’s have some confidence in the Republican leadership in the Senate. They’re not “yes men,” but they are team players.

Some are especially eager to criticize the leadership even though it is doing a fine job here.
