'Gun sense' advocate visits Rock Island
qctimes.com ^ | 1/29/2017 | Sean Leary

What Gustafson has done is to travel around the region speaking to formal and informal gatherings, helping to start grassroots organizations to deal with the issue of gun violence. She’s quick to mention she’s a gun owner, a Republican and a supporter of the Second Amendment, but also advocates for stronger background checks and sensible parameters on ownership and safety.

“States that have implemented background checks have already prevented nearly 300,000 gun sales to domestic abusers,” she said. “In states with stronger background checks, there are 47 percent fewer women shot, 47 percent fewer gun injuries in domestic violence situations and 53 percent fewer law enforcement officers shot and killed in the line of duty. This is something that affects us all.”

For more information, Gustafson encourages people to seek them out on Facebook, visit everytown.org or thetrace.org or text JOIN to 644-33 to get alerts and information.

Why is it that anti-gunners always feel compelled to start their snake oil spiel with the lie

a gun owner, a Republican and a supporter of the Second Amendment,

She MIGHT possibly be the first two, but she most assuredly is NOT a supported of the second amendment if she's going around trying to restrict it. I guess it's because anti-gunners

  1. think we're too stupid to figure out they're lying, and
  2. They have such complete contempt for us that they figure if they say they own a gun we'll think their drivel might have some validity - WRONG

Wonder how many “sensible gun laws” have been passed with grand promises and have done absolutely nothing to solve the original issue. Glass is half empty: the laws were never intended to stop so called gun violence and were only a ruse to convince people to submit to the leadership so that the population will be easier to control if and when the time comes.

Each time there is a new law being proposed, pull out the videos and documented statements and confront them with the failed promises and lies. That ought to shut them up or at least distract them for a little while.

States that have implemented background checks

WTH does this mean? Is she referring to "universal background checks" as opposed to current federal law? Is this her statement, or a para-phrase from an inept and unknowing reporter?

The state of journalism in this country is pathetic, if it even exists at all.

I’d rather states require gun safety training for kids, progressing to adults over time.

We need permitting reciprocity FAST and PERMANENT. Esp with terrorist creeps who’ve been running around the country and opening terrorist training camps.

(I had a dream about Hillary being a real witch last night. It scared me as much now as it did during election season.)

“States that have implemented background checks have already prevented nearly 300,000 gun sales to domestic abusers,”

Nonsense.

What she means is that if you are accused of domestic abuse you lose your Second Amendment rights.
