Politics: President Trump's selection for the Supreme Court won't get a fair hearing from the Democrats. No, that's not an opinion. The Democrats themselves say so. The GOP better get ready this is what they'll face for the next four years.
As of late Tuesday, no one knew who would be Trump's pick for the high court. But, heck, it really didn't matter.
Oregon Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley made clear it doesn't matter who it is: If it's not President Obama's earlier pick, Judge Merrick Garland, he'll filibuster.
"This is a stolen seat," said Merkley, who has the distinction of being wrong both on his reading of the law and on the Congress' own rules. "This is the first time a Senate majority has stolen a seat. We will use every lever in our power to stop this."
And he made clear he's not alone in some kind of quixotic quest. "A very large number of my colleagues will be opposed," he said.
Then there's the case of the nominations of Dr. Tim Price as Health and Human Services secretary and Steve Mnuchin as the next Treasury secretary. They were scheduled to be approved Tuesday by the Senate Finance Committee and sent to the floor or a vote so that President Trump could get his government up and running.
But the Democrats didn't show. Literally.

Hasn’t obstruction always been a Democrat strategy?
Simple enough to defeat this.
Have one Republican re-register as a Democrat.
(mic drop)
Definitely appears their strategy is the bolded section; this might play well with the base, but I don't see this being a winning strategy in 2018 or 2020. And with Trump not afraid to use the bully pulpit, I see Democrats accomplishing very little.
They keep calling it a stolen seat - if Hillary had won, she would have gotten to make the pick.....
But the Democrats didn’t show. Literally.
....taking the Odungo route... no show, don’t vote, don’t blame meeee
Keep an eye on these Democratic senators from Red states up for reelection in 2018: McAskill (Trump won Missouri by 20 points); Donnelly (Trump won Indiana by 20 points); Manchin (Trump won WVA by 42 points); Heitkamp (Trump won ND by 36 points). They can’t act like this and pretend to be “conservative moderates” two years hence.
“Slow walking” has long been a strategy of those of inferior position, who despise that station in life, and wish to somehow inflict some kind of shaming on those whom they consider to be their “oppressors”. Excellent definition of those who are “victims” of circumstance, but nowhere do they acknowledge that the reason for their own failure is because they were without the introspection to understand some 95% of the personal woe in the world is self-induced.
The current crop of Democrat “leadership”, if it may be called that, is woefully lacking in even the most rudimentary skills of critical thinking and logical discourse. ALL nominees by President Donald Trump for ANY position are automatically “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it”, to quote Hillary Clinton (September 9, 2016).
None of which is true, but the mantra is repeated over and over, until it becomes an article of faith with the True Believers.
JQP is going to get sick of their antics soon enough.
We’re currently without an AG or SOS—it’s time to play up the public safety aspects of that reality and the Dems responsibility.
The demodummies shout “obstructionists” against the Republicans when they themselves are the ones blocking things they don’t agree with. Reminds me of the BLM crowd blocking roads, run the bastards over and be done with it.
Come on Red States with Democrats in the Senate, up for reelection in 2018. We need you to pressure them! If they obstruct, they are out in 2018.
Letters, calls, emails. We won’t put up with their nonsense. We’ve come too far to give in now.
The Demons are doubling down on every losing strategy they have....Godspeed!
Yup, this isn’t the Democrats’ new strategy, it’s their normal one.
Why can’t the GOP members of these committees just call the meeting in session without the rats, vote on the nominee, and send it to the senate? If the rats don’t show, screw them.
Gridlock Gridlock Gridlock shut down the government! How can we survive?
I haven’t heard those laments.
Remember Kent State!
Sanctuary cities. They are boasting of state sovereignty while breaking federal law to set up bases for invasion. They say they won’t pay taxes.
In the whiskey rebellion, people refused to pay taxes, and Washington sent in the army.
I say send the army in and take it. Let marshal law begin in California.
McCaskill was one of the committee no shows. Maybe she’s just accepted she’s doomed and is going to toe the party line.
