It was late evening on January 12, 1967 and three men were laboring over the body of psychology professor James Bedford, who had just died from kidney cancer at the age of 72.
But while the manner of Bedford's death - in bed at a hospital in Glendale, California, was not unusual - what happened next certainly was.
Bedford was about to become the world's first cryopreserved human being and now lies suspended in liquid nitrogen in a vault in Scottsdale, Arizona. Although the 72-year-old said before his death that he didn't expect ever to be revived, scientist Robert Nelson, one of the trio who carried out the preservation process, says he is confident that Bedford will one day live again.
'When we froze Bedford, man had never been on the moon, there had never been a heart transplant, there was no GPS, no cellphones,' said Nelson, now 80, in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com.

I wish we could bring Ben Franklin back. I’d like to give him a tour. I bet he would adapt quite well. And I’d teach him how to use a smartphone. :)
(But I understand what you are saying.)
I'm just reaffirming it.
That's of course because water expands as it freezes and bursts the cell walls. It's like leaving a bottle of soda or beer in the freezer too long and it bursts.
No one has ever repaired a human cell after it has been frozen. Human cells break when frozen.
True, but they'll be as fresh and tasty as the day you froze them. Just don't defrost them on the counter ... there are germs.
That’s a pretty scary line. wow.
lol
lol
Nah. It wasn’t a good movie lol. B horror/sci fi movie.
But that part WAS scary.
Just the thought of not being able to die. Then someone on here sent me a line from the bible saying pretty much that one day people will want to die but won’t be able to.
Now I’m concerned.
He’s going to be really pissed at his “friends” when he returns!
Never watched it but between this post and the quote from the bible someone sent me, I’m terrified of not being able to stay dead.
Like the guy from “Pet Sematary” (spelled wrong on purpose) said, “Sometimes dead is better”
I can’t say much about the neurotransmitters and hormones, which are peptides or small molecules. These chemicals can have a wide range of stabilities, to being stable in the fridge to being so unstable that it is difficult to extract them from tissues before they degrade.
In the frozen environment, a number of factors are operant. The cold temperature reduces the chemical reaction rate, which slows down degradation of unstable molecules. Most proteases (proteins that destroy other proteins) are inactive at very low temperatures, however, some still have very low activity, meaning that they will destroy small proteins and peptides even in a frozen sample.
The only way to know if the important neurotransmitters and hormones would survive being frozen long-term would be to test long-frozen neural tissues to see if those molecules are still present, and in concentrations comparable to those found in living tissues.
Karen Allen, sigh...
Any idea how old this movie is?
Not that old but it isn’t that good :)
B movie but just that part terrified me for some reason.
You’d beat me up if you watched it lol
I can try to find it since many seem interested. But don’t get me zotted after watching.
I think it scared me because i have pretty lousy chronic pain from a head injury and it terrifies me to think that death won’t be the end of the pain.
some superstitious Christians think whatever you have carries over with you. I know that’s nonsense, but we humans have wild imaginations and fears.
She is such a cutie. I loved her in that movie.
I’m retired now, I’ve got time to waste.
Having been warned, I won’t hold it against you.
That’s actually not it but now i must watch it as it sounds WAY BETTER than what i watched :)
I shall find the name of what i watched.
