SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) The state of California is studying ways to suspend financial transfers to Washington after the Trump administration threatened to withhold federal money from sanctuary cities, KPIX 5 has learned.
Officials are looking for money that flows through Sacramento to the federal government that could be used to offset the potential loss of billions of dollars worth of federal funds if President Trump makes good on his threat to punish cities and states that dont cooperate with federal agents requests to turn over undocumented immigrants, a senior government source in Sacramento said.

Comes to gun laws the left thinks state laws, but when the marriage sham homosexual crap comes up they say states cannot decide. The left are just babies having tantrums all the time.
To start, cancel SF's lease of Hetch Hetchy in Yosemite, and offer its water to the agricultural people.
That might get their attention that adults are in charge.
Also readers need to be reminded that withholding taxes, which include Medicare and Social Security, are deposited in a participating bank (I forget the correct description) and through the magic of electronic transfers are in the hands of the treasury by the next day.
So the states are not in possession of that money either.
I am not aware of how the federal gas tax is handled, but it does not matter because it is plainly described as a federal tax and any attempt to divert it to anyone else would be a federal crime.
I suspect that it goes directly to the feds in some manner similar to how sales tax is collected by the states.
You would be vastly mistaken.
It doesn’t work that way.
Remember the eight years Obama spent souping up the IRS?
Time to turn that rabid dog loose on California.
Let’s see what liberals think of taxes after they get ass raped with IRS’s broken bottle. :)
Interesting! Thank you for the info, FRiend!
Certainly people in North America would not have the fresh fruit and vegetables all year long without CA.
The state really is a gift.
“States that send more money to the federal government than they receive, could suspend payments to the Feds.”
Please tell me what money CA sends to the feds.
Income tax on individuals and corporations does NOT count.
Maybe Georgie Soros could subsidize California until they get over their tantrum.
“States that send more money to the federal government than they receive, could suspend payments to the Feds.”
States don’t send money. People and corporations do.
You can’t possibly not know that.
What “payments to the Feds” are you talking about exactly?
I pay my taxes to Uncle Sam. Directly. And I would continue to do so for so long as I am in this state.
Let’s say they tried this. There is an easy, Constitutionally-vetted and approved response:
Marshal law. Arrests of all CA public officials involved in this act of rebellion. Military Governor appointed and habeas corpus suspended. I am sure that there would be no shortage of volunteers from both within and without the state to help enforce Federal Law.
With a lisp.
“Marshal law. Arrests of all CA public officials involved in this act of rebellion.”
Who is Marshal?
Why does he get to make laws?
Sisters Ros and Verity. They're Australian.
As the article stated.
“They could recommend non-compliance with the federal tax code.”
I’m not saying it’s a great idea, but it would be interesting to see if one state condoned or recommend non compliance with federal tax code.
The red counties in kali need to be pushed into messyco. Or the Atlantic. Either would be fine.
“My whole life, people Ive met from California have been a bit off, ranging from a little eccentric to full-blown loonies.”
My whole life, I’ve met wonderful people from California. I’ve got friends in California who are very conservative and I have conservative friends who moved from California to Colorado lock, stock and barrel. One brought a fifty million dollar company with him. Another joined the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department out of Long Beach and recently retired at the Sargent level.
I’ve traveled and vacationed in several parts of rural California, and the people there are solid, conservative citizens and wonderful people like ALL parts of non-urban America in all states. I’ve patronized many small family-operated oriental restaurants in San Francisco, owned and operated by very hard-working people. One of my best friends (who is very conservative) lives in the San Diego area and works for the Navy. I’m pretty sure he’ll leave when he retires and take his large retirement with him, away from the reach of California taxes.
Blue.
“While I could be wrong, I’m thinking that the vast majority of money sent to the feds from any state is from private businesses. They pay their withholding and social security deductions from their payroll directly to the feds. That money doesn’t go through Sacramento. “
You’re not wrong. Furthermore, I can’t imagine that ANY state collects and remits large amounts of monies directly to the Feds: they’re pretty damn good at collecting their own money damn!
Pacific.
