With secession threats looming, the state of California is reportedly studying ways to suspend financial transfers to Washington after the Trump administration threatened to withhold federal money from sanctuary cities.

KPIX5 reports that officials are looking for money that flows through Sacramento to the federal government that could be used to offset the potential loss of billions of dollars’ worth of federal funds if President Trump makes good on his threat to punish cities and states that don’t cooperate with federal agents’ requests to turn over undocumented immigrants, a senior government source in Sacramento said.
The federal funds pay for a variety of state and local programs from law enforcement to homeless shelters.

The left is looking for a President Trump overreaction.
Sending in troops or Federal Marshals is EXACTLY what they want. Then they can claim Trump is a fascist Hitler.
The response should be more nuanced.
Right now, Trump is cutting of Federal money to sanctuary cities, only. California threatens a tax revolt. In response to a tax revolt, the counterattack should be multipronged:
Those should bring California to their senses.
I sent a very similar message to the President Trump url. My idea was to instruct the TSA at all the Kalifornia airports to do a COMPLETE search of everybody wishing to fly out of the state. Much like Israel does. And to put checkpoints at all US highways exiting the state, implement security stations at all railroads, ports, and buses in the state. So it was similar to your suggestion except I also included train stations, ports, and bus stations.
What my idea and yours would do would piss of the population of the state so much they would throw out the libs in Sacramento.
It’s not even all of California that wants this, it’s just that thin strip of compacted lunacy near the coasts. 4.4 million Californians voted for Trump. There is a lot of Trump support there.
San Mateo County, Sonoma, Marin, LA County...ok they’re hopeless. But that’s the only part that needs to go.
Theirs is not a righteous revolt against tyranny. It's insurrection against the lawful demands of the federal government, who are merely enforcing the same laws that apply to every state in the union.

I’m not. They are threatening this to counter one of the few things the fed is empowered to do - secure our borders.
If they can secede then I say, let them and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. But as long as they are part of the United States then they have to abide by federal immigration law. And liberals threatening to withhold taxes is just precious!
Pass a law that states that Federal Taxes go up by 25 percent on gasoline and other things in Sanctuary areas.

It sure does. As a state government, if the Feds were dumping on state government powers, indeed I would stop forwarding to Federal coffers all level of Federal tax funds collected. Plus, I’s also try to persuade private business to forward their Fed tax revenues to the state.
Pesky downside; are state officials willing to be promptly marched off to jail. Perhaps summarily.
