Leverage, folks.

Charge a 2% fee on the money going to Mexico. Too high and they'll drive it down or do some other avoidance tactic. 2% they'll pay.

That's enough for them to pay for the wall.

Mexico does not respect the US or our laws.
The government has been encouraging Mexicans to illegally enter our country, get benefits fraudulently, work illegally and send the proceeds home.
Remittances from the US is Mexico’s largest source of income.
They are a cleptocracy.

Western Union no longer considers Mexico a foreign country for purposes of sending money.

We’re paying for free education, food stamps, healthcare for illegals, housing.

They take the cash and ship it home. We lose out on income taxes at federal and state level.

We lose out on the multiplier effect of cash being spent into a local economy.

Trump gets it. They’ll be begging him for a meeting if he squeezes this source of money, which accounts for 25% of the Mexican economy.

The country’s largest source of cash comes from Mexicans living in the United States...

Gee, that sounds so congenial.

Like they are all on visas.

Now as Raloh Kramden would say “EVERYBODY OUT!!!”

For decades, Mexico has outsourced its social-welfare system, and exported the human consequences of its failed socialist policies to the USA.

It was a win-win-win for Mexico. Dump their lowest classes on the USA, while creating an automatic Mexican fifth-column and lobby in the USA. American Leftists and the Democrat Party benefited from the scam and lawbreaking as well.

Let’s hope to God Trump is successful in ending it.

Yup! And since the main reason most Mexicans (illegal and otherwise) come to the US is to work to make money they can send to their dirt poor families back home, this strategy will make paying for the wall some other way in the best interest of their leaders.

State and USAID: In FY2014, the U.S.Government will partner with Mexico to consolidate and institutionalize the progress made as a result of ongoing bilateral security and environmental cooperation. To support the Global Climate Change (GCC) Presidential Initiative, an environmental partnership with the Government of Mexico (GOM) and other stakeholders will promote clean energy adoption, low carbon development, and sustainable forestry management to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Security cooperation will continue to be adjusted to reflect shared Mexico-U.S.priorities and the priorities of the new Mexican administration. By weakening transnational criminal organizations, reforming the institutions that sustain the rule of law, creating a 21st century border, and building stronger and more resilient communities, the UnitedStates and Mexico will ensure greater prosperity and growth on both sides of the 2,000 mile shared border. Congressional Budget Justification FY 2014

Mexico was obligated a total of $209M from the United States government in 2012, a decrease of 108% from last year's aid ($436M).

The aid Mexico was obligated is one of the highest amounts for all countries in North America (avg. $31.1M) and significantly higher than average for all countries in the world (avg. $25.9M).

Western Union charges a flat fee of $8 to send money to Mexico. Western Union can divert some of those $8 fees to help pay.
