There is no assassination attempt if there was no threat in the package.

“Flout” or “sugar” does not make for a threat.

Let's not lie about circumstances. We lose credibility.

But it has to be psychologically damaging to receive these packages/threats.There is harm being done here.

It is still a terroristic act and should be punished, as an example for the others.

There is no assassination attempt if there was no threat in the package.

What's the first thing you would do if you opened an envelope/package and a white powder spilled out?

As is someone pointing an empty gun at you is really not a threat on your life.

It's not up to the victim to determine if the perp is fooling or not. Prudence dictates otherwise, and any attempt, in this case especially, should be prosecuted or at least make that little bastard's life so miserable, no one will be tempted to emulate it.

Agreed. But it is terrorism. It is the use of terror to intimidate a public official. It should be punishable by serious jail time.

Mailing a white powder in an envelope is like yelling fire in a crowded theater... While there is no fire to harm anyone, many can be harmed in the response.

How is one to know if it’s ‘flour’ or ‘sugar’ given the insane temperament of the all encompassing Democrat party?

If such acts are designed to terrorize, then label the bastards terrorists, but DON’T make wussie-assed excuses for such acts.

Correct. She will have the protection she deserves, end of story. We don’t do fake news here.

Exactly. Until I see a verified report that the envelope contained weaponized RICIN or Anthrax it's just a prank. Fear mongering and hyperbole make us look very weak.

To me a VALID assassination attempt is a Cabinet member showered with shattered glass as the BULLET HOLE appears within an inch of their body. And our Cabinet members shouldn't be in an exposed position for any such thing to take place, anyway.

If someone pulls out a pistol with no bullets and points it at someone, that is a crime.

Try telling that to an undercover cop that you just sold a package of sugar or flour after passing it off as cocaine. See if he takes the handcuffs off you and lets you out of the car after you tell him that it was all a joke. Try it and let me know how it turns out for you.

Pseudo-assassination attempts need to have investigations. How simple to slip something else in the envelop.

These are threats and should be taken seriously.

Until it was confirmed to be a false attempt, she had every reason to believe it was real. The next white powder that arrives at her home may be deadly, and she must be living in fear for her family as well as herself, I would be. And btw, how do you know what those nuts are capable of? Who’s lying?

The threat is the powder it self. In many states terroristic threatening like this is a felony and using the mails to carry it out is too.

What an asinine response to a common sense reality.

Your truly stupid response would argue that if Airline passengers were to attempt to board an airliner wearing fake suicide vests, they must be allowed to continue the trip once it is determined that there is no threat.

Stupidity, not hydrogen, seems to be the most common thing in our universe.

I disagree. In this day and age if I got an envelope in the mail containing “white powder” it would be treated as a threat just as if you pointed an empty gun at me. The response would and should be exactly the same.
