IMHO, in light of the whole fiasco of shutting down financial transactions at the Vatican, the banksters wanted their man to be Pope.

I really wonder if the likely arrest of one George Soros by the Trump Administration some time later this year for violating US election and finance laws could result in a major investigation of Soros Fund Management itself. One now really wonders did Soros quietly run a slush fund to curry political favors, something that could expose influence to political parties, political groups, banks, religious institutions, media companies, and influential celebrities around the world.

Catholics can complain, but I have a thick skin. In my ideal world, the U.S. government (1) would not have an official representative to the Vatican nor any foreign diplomatic or other government presence at the Vatican.
We send no such representatives to the HQ of any other religious denomination in the world, and there is no moral or other legitimate reason to continue the fiction of respecting the vatican as a state, no matter what Italians and Roman Catholic popes have agreed to.
Anyone one to pretend the Vatican does not eavesdrop on all the foreign diplomats there?
