President Trump plans to sign executive orders reviving the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines, which had been stalled under the Obama administration, sources tell Fox News.
The moves had been widely expected, as Trump blasted his predecessor for effectively blocking the projects amid environmental and other concerns.
While the Canada-to-Texas Keystone project was at the center of a heated debate for years until the Obama administration rejected a key permit in November 2015, the Dakota pipeline more recently became the subject of fierce protests until the Army Corps of Engineers in December blocked construction of a controversial segment.
The company behind the Keystone XL project, TransCanada, has not yet reapplied for a pipeline permit, after having withdrawn its request under the Obama administration.
The expected moves come as Trump makes the economy and jobs the centerpiece of his administrations first week in office.
He met Tuesday morning with representatives from the auto industry including GM and Ford, after meeting a day earlier, separately, with business and union leaders.
The pipelines were one of the few issues that put the Obama administration at odds with labor unions, some of whom have voiced hope the Trump administration can work with them to promote job creation. Trump said Tuesday during his meeting with auto industry bosses that he considers himself an environmentalist, but called current regulations "out of control."
The pipeline orders would follow earlier executive actions covering everything from trade to ObamaCare.
Trump on Monday signed measures withdrawing the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, and instituting a hiring freeze for most of the federal government.

“the Dakota pipeline more recently became the subject of fierce protests until the Army Corps of Engineers in December blocked construction of a controversial segment.”
The Army Corps of Engineers (aka The Army Private Land Rapists) should be put out of the “environmental protection” business permanently.
The first person whose face came to my mind was that of Warren Buffet.
This man will be displeased as he owns rail based transport companies that move oil and gas interstate of which is holds a quasi-monopoly.
Look for him to start funding the environmentalist wackos for their usual protests.
Hmmmm. Anybody got pics of of the eco wankers heads ‘splodin? I know someone has the pics. ;-)
Is there a Winning Overdose Hotline number out there?
I really don’t want to hear these things, “telegraphed”, so the protestors and other commie losers can get their SS out there (Soros Soldiers (SS) - yeah, just made that up, but I like it).
What will Warren Buffett do now?
His trains won’t be carrying oil once the pipelines are built.
Very good..SS...Soros Soldiers. Let’s keep that one going
Four years from now, the non-public-sector unions are NOT going to be able to keep the rank and file (and their families) on the Democrat plantation.
No, just anything over six hours has to be reported to your doctor.
Every day gets better.
I think pipelines are generally good news for America.
First, they are less expensive. This is how producers choose to ship, when they are allowed to do so. (Freedom is a good thing.)
Secondly, they are an environmentally safer way to ship oil and gas. I care about the environment, even if “environmentalists” do not.
Third, oil and gas production provide several layers of economic benefit for the US and the world. There is no point producing oil and gas unless you can distribute it. By the way, I look forward to Trump providing the green light to exporting liquid natural gas oversees. They need the gas and we need the money.
Fourth, the only certain environmental effect of increased carbon dioxide in the air is that trees and other plants will breath more easily. More plant life means more animal life. More species will be protected.
Today is a good day to buy steel stock!
Bump to That!
Now it's accurate.
Likely restrictions on coal will be lifted. And coal is transported by rail.
Take a number! Form a line! There’s plenty for everybody.
“Today is a good day to buy steel stock.”
I understand what you’re saying, but rising metal costs are good for the speculators, but not so much for metal users. Even the cost of a single stick of rebar has become outrageously high, especially given that a lot of rebar is made from junk recycled metals anymore. I’d love to see investment opportunities in American made steel companies again, where the American smelters and foundries reopen for business again rather than China shipping their cheap crap over here, produced so inexpensively by paying slave labor wages.
I don’t think this is winning if Trudeau has blocked Keystone from the Canadian side
