Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on Sunday that he is prepared to leave open the ninth seat on the Supreme Court.

“If the nominee is not bipartisan and mainstream, we absolutely will keep the seat open,” Schumer told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

ADVERTISEMENT The Supreme Court vacancy has been open since last February, when Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away.

Schumer said he is prepared to fight "tooth and nail" should Trump not choose a mainstream nominee.

If the Senate is controlled by the Republicans, how can one solitary Democrat obstruct and hold back the nomination.

The Supreme court nominees need 60 votes, not the 51 in the nuclear option for cabinet appointments..
The Republicans have 52 votes
The Republicans need democrats to vote with them to get to 60.
If Chuck Shumer can keep the democrats from crossing over , the Republicans can't vote in a Supreme court Judge. -Tom

It takes 60 votes to break a filibuster, but if the so-called “nuclear option” is available for the SC vote, a majority vote will do it...

He has 48 dem votes, so yes, Schimer can block a vote if the standard is still 60 to pass.

If McConnell goes nuclear (50+ to nominate), then no, Schumer doesn’t.

I really don’t think McCain or Graham will block a conservative. They’ll try to get something for themselves in voting ‘Aye”, but they wouldn’t straight-out block it.

Trump is a deal maker. I’m sure he’d listen to them and see what he could do.

President Trump is getting ready to shake their cage with a pro-life very conservative nominee for the SCOTUS. The cry babies on the left want diversity & inclusiveness. Trump is no McCain or Graham and will subdue them.

What Trump should simply say he won the election, therefore his pick is the mainstream pick. Since this election wasn’t so much about ideology any of Trump’s picks are the picks of the people and Schumer is preventing the American people from filling the position.

Turn it against the rats.

Why does Schumer call the shots? I thought the Republicans had a majority in the Senate as well as the house.

And if Hillary had won, would he feel the same? Hell no! Hey Chuckie, get those stupid glasses off your pointy nose and look around. You lost! We get another Scalia. Then another, and another...

It won’t take long to turn 8 Democrat Senators.

22 of them are up for reelection in 2018, and 12 of those from States that Trump won.

When Trump starts preaching about “obstructing the American people” and decent, acceptable behavior from the swamp denizens, Schumer’s party will fracture.

Schmuck won’t be able to hold all the RAT Senators. For too many blue senators in Trump-won states, 2018 is just around the corner.

I said 60 votes because the democrats will filibuster and 3/5 of the senators will be needed to override the filibuster and confirm the supreme court justice. -Tom

Rassmussen, which is no longer conservative, had Trump at 56% approval on Thursday or Friday. Gallup had him at 44% a few days earlier by skewing the poll 11% +donk.

Is that a rhetorical question, lol?

The filibuster and the ‘Gang of Eight’ make common sense approaches/Constitutional Judges (Original intent, that despite what academia dictates, transcends time periods) hard to come by.

Hasn't anyone explained to Schumer that he is the minority leader of only one-half of one-third of the federal government? After all, that's what McConnell, McCain, and Graham taught us over the years.

They always explained to us how weak they really were.
