Lack of power has profound implications for Democrats. Power is the Partys raison dêtre and sine qua non. Without power the party is broke and broken.
Consider, for example, one crucial element of their reliance on identity politics, specifically, organized labor. Organized labor is perhaps the single most important and dependable factor in the Democratic Partys long-term success. In fact, Britains equivalent of the Democrat Party is called the Labour Party.
Democrats rely on a perverse variation of voluntary exchange. In exchange for votes, campaign contributions, and election workers, Democrats deliver legislation and regulations favorable to unions. The system works well for both entities, but it only works so long as Democrats have the power to keep their part of the bargain.
On the other side of the quid pro quo, there has to be a sufficient population of union members in order to generate an adequate amount of campaign funds. Unfortunately for the Democrats, the percentage of the U.S. labor force in unions has declined from 20 percent in 1983 to 11 percent now. Less than seven percent of the private workforce is unionized. Thirty-five percent of government employees are union members, but that too is in jeopardy. When President Trump fills the current Supreme Court vacancy, mandatory union dues could well be ruled unconstitutional. That could be a double whammy reduced union membership and a reduced supply of campaign funds. Trump has said that he wants to reduce the federal workforce by 20 percent. What a glorious accomplishment that would be.

There is no “Democratic Party” anymore, and it’s last gasp was 2004.
There is only the Radical Academic Socialist Billionaires Part now.
If the states with Republican majorities redistrict right the demondogs will have a hard time indeed
The funny thing in this article is how the conflate “union” with “workers”. They keep saying how the relationship between the Democrat party and the Unions is beneficial to both, but that doesn’t say explain how the workers are benefited.
There is many a union which had it very good while the workers lost all their jobs.
UNITE screwed the garment workers to death in 1998 by making a deal with some clothing manufactures to allow them to close their shops in NY for a sum of money to retrain the fired workers in other jobs. The fired workers tried to apply for that training and UNITE told them that since they were not working, they were not members of the union and were not eligible for retraining. But the union officials had a good year with all the bonuses.
We are witnessing the political death of the Democrat party, caused by Barack Hussein Obama & Hillary Clinton. The establishments of both the Republican & Democrat parties....is so yesteday!! “Nothing is as dead, as an idea whose time has passed, long ago!!!
Bttt
......and unfavorable to companies, actually destroying them and the jobs that supplied the unions.
They may be dazed and confused now ... but I fear their lies are more powerful than the truth embodied in our Constitution.
They will be back in force, soon, to start Civil War II.
It was the blow to the head that got them dazed and confused.
The beating to the body is inbound.
The left still have got long term competitive advantage. They keep a firm hand on education and MSM.
I think the biggest deflator is perhaps the taking down of the Goliath MSM by a man slinging tweets. And the WHOLE WORLD SAW IT - live!
I absolutely love it.
I look at it differently. There’s that saying something about ....lies are what need constant defending - the truth can take care of itself.
It should be labeled what it is..the Socialist Fascist Party
On the federal level they get favorable legislation, i.e., card check which I think ultimately failed, not sure. Plus they get the NLRB to hound companies. But the more nefarious gains they get I’ve witnessed at the state level here in CA. Two things:
1.) They cycle of union money and democrat politicians means (particularly for the public sector) that the unions effectively end up negotiating with themselves come contract time.
2.) And probably the most nefarious they got the the legislature and the governor to sign off on collective bargaining agreements that allowed them to raise wages and benefits to obscene levels based on future earning in the state pension fund (CALPERS). Of course what happened? Market crashed in 2000 and 2008. But the contracts were already signed and now cities go bankrupt because the majority of their revenues are tied up in paying pension and health benefit obligations.
It’s an evil of the worst kind.
Even conservatives seem to be nervous about using the label ‘communist’.
bkmk
Here in California, it’s the Black MexiRAT contingent that provides the stupidity necessary to run our legislature, backed up by the Hollywood/Silicon Valley Axis of whacked out billionaires and dumb$hit actors. Here’s hoping Jerry & Co. can bankrupt the state before he leaves office, so Kimberly Guilfoyle’s ex-husband (Any Twosome Newsom)can oversee the smoldering disaster Brown leaves.
¨Demmunists¨
They’ll be lucky to last two weeks in Civil War II.
