California has withdrawn its request to the federal government for permission to allow undocumented people to obtain health insurance from the state exchange, with a lawmaker linking the decision to concerns about the incoming Trump administration.
State Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, called the action the first California casualty of the Trump presidency. Lara, who carried the bill seeking the change and requested Wednesdays move, said in a statement that he doesnt trust the Trump administration to do whats best for California and to implement the waiver in a way that protects peoples privacy and health.
I take Trump at his words that anyone is subject to deportation at any time, Lara added, and California will not be part of a wasteful and inhumane campaign against immigrants who are working hard and playing by the rules.
Under the federal Affordable Care Act, undocumented immigrants are not eligible to buy policies from health exchanges. Senate Bill 10, approved last summer, aimed to help families with mixed immigration status obtain health insurance through Covered California, but the state first needed federal permission.

“Playing by the rules” by entering and staying in the US illegally, by working illegally, etc. Who’s rules? Obviously not US law.
California still plans to offer a “Newly Qualified Immigrant” (NQI) plan that will be a Platinum plan with the premium 100% subsidized (94% fed subsidy and 6% state subsidy), starting 1/1/2018.
The NQI plan is for impoverished immigrants who have been legally immigrated for less than 5 years, which means they are not yet qualified for Medicaid.
After the 5 years is up, these immigrants are 100% subsidized on Medicaid.
Rep. Wilson was right. They lied when they said illegals wouldn’t be covered.
Get out!
That is not for illegals.
Good. Let this be the first of many more to come.
Sheltering illegals is a felony. A lot of Californos may be facing more than just loss of federal funds.
Nope. Not even gonna try. :-)
Half of Medi-Cal is composed of illegals.
The latest huge tax increase proposals by Brown may have also had something to do with it - the Californians gotta be getting tired of it all...
I think we'll be seeing more of that very soon.
An omen California might deduce from this old Chinese proverb: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
