Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lost the presidential race against President-elect Donald Trump in November, and a Friday report from Politico asserts supermarket tabloids are to blame.
Media reporter Jack Shafer asserts that the sheer volume of anti-Clinton reporting from tabloids, Fox News and Breitbart was just too much for Democrats to fight effectively during the course of the campaign.
Shafer acknowledges that no one really reads tabloids like The National Enquirer and The Globe, citing the fact that Enquirer only has a weekly circulation of 342,071 issues, down significantly from the publications height of 5.9 million issues during the 1970s

Yeah, deplorables are STUPID.
I always read the headlines in the check out lines. When I went regularly to the beauty parlor (I don’t go anymore because they finally made me permanently cute), I would read the articles. The woman who did my manicures and I would go through and say, ugly, cute, hate him/her, love him/her. Great mindlessness. I miss that more than I miss the manicures. She had a track record of voting for the winner in every presidential race since she was able to vote at 18 (she’s in her 50s). She blew it this year. HAHAHA
She lost because she sucked as a candidate and did not campaign very hard.
She never visited Wisconsin.
She thought the Ministry of Propaganda would get her elected.
She said something towards the end, can’t remember what but it sounded exactly like the ‘we have a right to disagree’, I could feel 100 mil Americans retching along with me Oh God no, never again.
One problem for her is that there long periods of time where she would disappear. Maybe due to health issues?
I wonder if something happened while she was Secretary of State and Benghazi was attacked. Maybe she was unavailable and it was too late when she reappeared. Scary to think that she might have been president.
So Trump had no headlines in the tabloids?
BREAKING!
Russians run Esquire.
Were they untrue?
Why would they hurt Hillary's campaign, when they didn't undercut Bill's popularity?
Couldn't being considered a victim of a lousy husband have been an advantage for her?
Most of the headlines I remember had to do with her bad health.
What did she do to counteract the rumors?
Vigorous and energetic campaigning would have disproved the rumors.
That's exactly what she didn't do.
She could have addressed the stories, saying she was as fit as a bull moose or something like that.
But she didn't do that either.
Trump had MUCH more negative press. Just about every newspaper, ESPN, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, Rolling Stone, Politico, Jet, Ebony, Fortune, USA Today, NY Times, LA Times, WaPo...
She did open a jar of pickles on a late night talk show.
It certainly changed my viewpoint.
Once I read that Hillary! had given birth
to an Alien baby, that was all she wrote.
Less than 60% of eligible voters even deigned to participate. Of those who vote, supposedly the 10% of voters that are swing voters decide all elections no matter the result, the ones that still manage to vote somehow but can be swayed one way or the other, by campaign ads, reported debate performance, physical appearance or some other non-rational reason. So basically the people with no firm guiding political philosophy decide our elections. If that’s true, it’s pretty amazing when you think about it.

When I went regularly to the beauty parlor (I dont go anymore because they finally made me permanently cute),
Think of the money you could have saved by having a
permanent the first visit!
That line may be from Hillary’s infamous “Sick & Tired” speech given during the GWB presidency. “I AM SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT IF YOU DISAGREE WITH THIS ADMINISTRATION SOMEHOW YOU ARE NOT PATRIOTIC!!!!”
She did this in her most screechy, raspy ex-wife from hell voice. Remember?
And even after slamming W. like that, GWB Barbara and the rest of the Bush family still go palling around with the Clintons, grinning and posing for pictures!
For wealthy people, they sure can seem stupid sometimes.
Well, they COULD be right: after all, people like us DO get most of our information from the pictures on the front pages of tabloid magazines while we wait in line to pay for our groceries. At least, I know I do.
