From broken levees south of Sacramento to snowbound streets in the mountains, Northern Californians tried to mop up from this weeks storms on Friday while bracing for another atmospheric river set to hit Tuesday.
As the sun came out in Sacramento, the National Weather Service said the region should have four days to dry out before the next big storm system moves in. The dry weather will give swollen rivers and streams a chance to recede, and allow work crews to inspect and shore up levees strained by increased water flows. Still, the weather service said the next storm could be substantial, with up to 3 inches of rain possible in the Sacramento area.

But but but!
This has never happened before, ever! for the last 4 or 5 years!!
We have this one area in our backyard where everything else drains. We’ve had so much rain that it has killed the grass and is now a mud pile. Just a few drops of rain and it becomes a lake again.

If your comment is intended to provide comfort to those
of us who were harmed by the storms then thank you.
If you are inferring that Californians (including
us FReepers) deserve the hardship then you can
pound sand, asshat.
Such an article was posted on FR maybe ten days ago saying we are now in for 1,000 years of monsoon-like storms.
Most likely written by the same guy who just five years ago said we were entering a 1,000 year drought.
I’ve been in CA 43 years and the wet / dry cycle runs like clockwork. The dry years come every 11 years or so and the wet years also come on the same schedule.
Come on! We all know the answer to that. RAISE TAXES!!
My dear old dad used to joke about “getting a spritz of that pineapple juice”!
Thanks, I was going to say something FAR, FAR nastier to this pr**k, but your post and a few others kept me from doing that.
There are so many millions and millions of AWESOME people in our beautiful state, and despite the fact that liberals own the government and have tried their best to ruin it, it’s a fantastic place to live and raise a family.
LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This winter will fill California water storage reservoirs to the brim. Jerry Brown will order them drained “for the Delta Smelt” bait fish and to create another artificial drought. Brown recently made the temporary drought restrictions permanent, and by damn, he is going to have his drought even if he has to drain every reservoir by June to get his way.
I hate the voters of California. I can’t wait to retire and leave this communist hell hole.
Don’t count on it. Jerry will order the reservoirs drained for the salmon and delta smelt. If he can’t have a drought, he is going to make one by draining the reservoirs before summer.
Add me to the ones trapped behind enemy lines in CA.
I disagree. They can’t drain the water at high rates due to possible threat to all that very valuable farmland in the Delta (those islands in the Delta are some of the very best farmlands in all of California) and also too much fresh water going into San Pablo Bay can really affect the ecology of that bay. Given the fact the dams in northern California are going to be effectively full by late February at the rate things are going, there’s only two places to dump that water—down the Delta Menota Canal and the California Aquaduct.
It’s only human foolishness that kept California from having everything it needed.
The blessings will still be so abundant, then, that even some lefties who are now thinking twice will ask why we can’t do something better with this.
We will see. Folsom was 80% full before last summer and they drained it to 45% in short order. Just flushed down the river.
Well there is that stubborn thing called history. It tends to slap airhead theory right in the mouth.
Weather is indiscriminate.
Politics has no say in who is affected you dick.
I left, when I retired too. I have been to many places in the world, and I always thought California was the best, for weather, and natural beauty, but the libtards drove me out.
