Here is the exchange between Virgina Senator Tim Kaine (D) and Tillerson:
KAINE: Mr. Tillerson, thank you. I encourage people to fly north to south not just east and west, and other parts of the world have a claim in our attention, but there are some real opportunities. I assume you support the U.S. position that's been in place since the 1940s to do what we can to provide a two-state solution with Israel and Palestine with a living peacefully side by side, that is the dream we hope for that region and I assume that you support that?
TILLERSON: I don't think anyone would take a position they don't hope for peace in that area for the issues to be ultimately resolved.
KAINE: And peace within the context of two-state solution as was determined by the U.N. and been the bipartisan policy since the late 1940s?
TILLERSON: I think that's the dream everyone is in pursuit of. Whether it can be a reality remains to be seen.
.....
TILLERSON: .....
The issues are long-standing and I think it's the state department's role to create, try to create an environment that brings parties together to want to find a way forward. I can tell you under the conditions today that's just -- it's extremely challenging to do that, but that has to be the aspirational goal. And to your example, sometimes it takes a different generation that's not carrying all that baggage of the past with them.
KAINE: Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Chair.

I think he deflected on this just fine.
I’m having trouble trying to see what was wrong with his answer
“Whether it can be a reality remains to be seen.”
A polite way of saying that it, whatever it is, is a utopian fantasy.
He should have said that he will follow the commander in chiefs direction in the matter, whether or not the president continues to follow a 80 year old policy that is clearly not working, signed by foreigners to the region who are all now dead, during which time, multiple wars and refugee crises have started, ended and have been resolved.
Rex didn’t sound up to speed on this. But Trump and Jared will be in charge of handling this.
Kaine sounds like a real ignoramous, he sure doesn’t know much about history or policy that’s for sure
It is of course never going to happen but lets keep talking in circles about it.
Rex is a smart cookie.
I don’t think Trump is bringing enemies of Israel on board.
If he were, I would oppose it stridently.
Thank God we didn’t get that doofus Kaine for VP.
My trust would go to Guggenheim head to head.
Even a dead drunk won’t get it wrong every single time.
Hogwash!
He said nothing...absolutely nothing. This was a response to a highly anticipated attack for which the answer was clearly well rehearsed...
First I ever heard of crazy Tim Kaine was when he was sucking up to Obama in 2008, claiming Obama got Russia and Georgia to stop fighting.
I heard the phone interview with him on TV with a still-shot of his doofus look on the screen.
Of course, he was lying like a good Democrat does for publicity.
Rex was fine—he put things in context of some ideal that’s probably not achievable, at least for generations.
And the US is in a spot where they can’t move their embassy for six months anyway.
Rex’s mission at this point is to get approved without making any promises he’ll regret.
Very good non answer. I see not problem.
D + LM = L
Democrats
Lips Moving
Lying
??? What is wrong with this? Pretty bland and expected and nobody with half a brain expects this very intelligent guy to say anything explosive.
Anyone with half a brain ALSO knows the “two State” solution ALREADY exists - Jordan and Israel and the Palestinians are Jordan’s problems not Israel’s.
The “West Bank” is an integral part of Israel and Jerusalem is the capital and that’s a fact jack.
Once Trump is in office I am SURE we can expect progress in that direction. The continued existence of the “Palestinian” state contributes to instability and violence in the area. It needs to be eliminated.
