Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced his pick for VA Secretary, the final missing piece of his cabinet. Trump has picked David Shulkin, the current Under Secretary for Health for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
If Shulkin is confirmed, he will be the first non-veteran to serve as VA Secretary. Shulkin has served as undersecretary since June 2015. He was previously was the chief executive of many hospital systems.

“The guy is a hospital administrator from the private sector. He knows and understands budgets, personnel and how private hospitals run. If you want to move away from a government run entity who better than someone who is a private sector admin who got to see the fustercluck going on in the VA?
Its a good choice. Trump knows what he is looking for.”
Why wasn’t he fixing things under Obama?
I’m very impressed with his credentials. Those are top-notch institutions. Trump hires on merit. Let’s give the doctor a chance.
I believe it is good to meet with people with opposing views when establishing policy. If for nothing else, you arm yourself with information helpful to defeating their opposition tactics.
Disagree. He picked a CEO of a health care corporation and empowered him to change the system.
I don’t want a politician. I want an expert in massive hospital organizations that had to make a profit.
Trump’s cabinet has either been red hot or ice cold...
Not digging the ice cold.
Yes, let him prove his worth..................
This has the appearance of a deal.
President-Elect Trump is first and foremost a business man. He expects results. If he does not get them to his satisfaction, he will hire someone to deliver them. If this current nominee does not, he will be out the door.
Exactly. He has some impressive creds.
Semper fi.................
So it looks like Trumps tough talking about cleaning up the VA system was all a bunch of BS. “
So what’s really BS here is your comment. You have no idea what Trump’s planning and you don’t really know anything substantive about the appointee, so in truth, you’re just another John McLame pi$$ing on everyone’s leg. It may well be that this guy is a star who has been kept from making changes because of his boss. As for his not having appointed a “military person” to head the VA, I completely agree with his decision. It isn’t enough to want to care for our veterans, we need to have someone who has the skill set to actually fix what’s broken at the VA. Just how “effective” was General Eric $hitsticki? Answer: he was a disaster.
The one thing I heard that is being ignored is there is going to be a group of doctors from the finest hospitals in America working with him.
Let’s wait to see what the reasoning is here
Very bad idea. I don’t like this.
Didn’t he also announce the VA will be collaborating with The Cleveland Clinic and also The Mayo Clinic? Sounds like he is working towards a universal coverage for vets.
It would make sense that he would tap a former hospital administrator who can understand budgets and how to disperse funds in an appropriate manner.
Don’t know much about the guy, but although he is an Obama appointee, he was never really in charge. I would reserve judgement until we hear what he plans to do.
Shulkin is an MD and former head of Atlantic health systems. Wiki says:
***Atlantic Health System (AHS) is a not-for-profit private healthcare company that operates hospitals and health care facilities in New Jersey. The president and chief executive of Atlantic Health System is Brian A. Gragnolati,[1] and the chairman of the Board of Trustees is Robert Toohey.[2]
Atlantic Health System received given an “A1” rating by Moody’s Investors Service in 2009.[3]
In 2012, AHS listed 11,624 employees and 3,123 physicians. With 1,315 beds 70,743 admissions were registered.
In 2013, the company was ranked 49th among Fortunes list of “100 Best Companies to Work For.”[4] In 2014 they were listed as 25th,[5] in 2015 they were ranked 39th and in 2016 they were ranked 79th.[6]***
"Its a good choice. Trump knows what he is looking for."
Totally agree with this!
“Any Obama appointee is a very liberal pro abortion, sodomite-loving democrat.”
And just how do you know that? Answer: You don’t! You’re as bad as the RATs at trashing President Trump before he has even taken the oath of office. Personally, I’d privatize the VA in a heartbeat. It is nothing but a government jobs program for worthless trolls who could care less about caring for our veterans. It results in sub-standard care for those of our number, who, because of their service, should be getting the very best of care, and are not.
Good points on the VA position.
President Elect Trump gave an outstanding press conference! I am so proud to have him as OUR president!
Good afternoon.
I definitely appreciate your concern.
Methinks if Shulkin doesn’t do his job (which I can report), Mr. Trump will fire him.

I am amazed that at this point in time, you all still don’t have any faith that Mr. Trump knows what he’s doing. How about wait and see?
