Siskal and Ebert used to heap so much praise on Streep that I was drawn to assess her for myself. I’m generally not that critical of performances.
I don’t care for her appearance. Her voice is annoying. The roles she picks do not appeal to me. Her performances seem mediocre at best.
It’s like this. Some comedians can stand there and smirk, and their fans will role in the isles laughing. For others, they are just annoyed. For Streep I am just annoyed.
What others see in her, I don’t know. If they like her I’m glad. For me she would be in the bottom 25% of actresses.
These awards programs have long since ceased to appeal to me.
I don’t think I ever watched an academy awards program when it didn’t occur to me that the praise they heaped on each other was so far over the top that it was unseemly.
All these awards for them. How many for our members of the military?
Reminds me of unionized government school teachers taking turns giving each other “teacher of the year” awards.
I guess she forgot Binden asking a wheel bound congressman to standup, more then once he yelled it. Oh well liberals have only selective retention on subjects.
Me too, I suppose. IMO, much like Gwynneth Paltrow, George Clooney, and an unceasing number of other actors and actresses, they are who they are based on who they know, not on any real talent.
And with regards to the military, they're out actually doing important things, rather than congratulating each other on trivialities.
