One Silicon Valley executive had a few choice words to describe Americans living in the heart of the nation, and they were not flattering.
Melinda Byerley, MBA and founder of Timeshare CMO, a Silicon Valley-based tech start-up, tweeted out Saturday afternoon describing what middle America could do to get more jobs in their area.

The stupid is strong in this cow. Speaking of cows, middle America is made up of farms and ranchers who produce the beef, pork, chicken she eats...unless she's a typical Vegan...and then they produce the grains she eats. And yes, industry mostly gathers around high population areas for shorter transport.
BTW, she forgot homophobic and Christian Bible thumpers. Wonder what she thinks of the great city of Chicago compared to "violent" middle America per capita?
She runs a firm that markets to Silicon Valley businesses. This screed isn’t going to hurt her with them, which is really saying something about what elitist bigots they are.
Maybe you need to go back to Seattle where youll feel better with your own....
Where I now live, there is Wal-Mart. It means all the income levels and cultures mix. It allows you to see, on an every day basis, what you just naturally avoid seeing in the city. But there are not as many successful people out here. If you make $15 an hour, you are doing REALLY well and are envied by most of the folks out here.
Then there are those that own their own businesses here, the farmers, and guys like me that commute to Louisville or Lexington and are still in the “Seattle type” environment.
I worked for a company in Louisville on a short term contract that had a problem I’ve never heard of. To wit, they set up call centers in small towns because they can be cheaper because the acceptable income levels are lower than in cities. This is pretty common practice. I’ve worked with call centers for a number of companies here and in Seattle.
But here are their two problems when trying to set up a call center in small town, rural america:
1. They gave up on drug testing job candidates because too many people fail them.
2. After a few years, they have burned through every employable person in the area via turnover. They find themselves needing to move to a different area and repeat the process. It is so bad sometimes that they lower the standards for deplorable work habits, etc. where they will just fire someone with the caveat that they can’t come back for x years.
Who would try to go into an area like that to acquire highly skilled people? Not me. I even thought that it would be cool to go to eastern KY and teach high school graduates (and maybe even work with the high schools) computer developer tools. Everything from SharePoint development, MVC, C#, etc. Then I realized that it would be too much of an exercise in futility based both on average IQ (caused by a number of factors), self esteem, personal perception, goals, etc. The ONLY motivation for going into those areas is the same as going into India. Except for India it is a national pride issue, and the candidates are highly trained and motivated.
You can find the same situations in large population centers, but there are just so darned many people that you can just ignore the “riff-raf” and focus on those that come to the game ready to play.
“...She is a Illinois Wesleyan University
BFA, Theatre ArtsStage Management...”
Dayum!!!!! Now thar’s a hi-teck pusishun thet takes uh high edjukated womyn tah fil...
She is a real brain too. Half of her rant are incomplete sentences, plus other grammatical errors. I thought the libs were supposed to be the ‘smart ones’!
I grew up in flyover country, 5 miles from a town of 50, and I can definitely write better than this so-called CEO.
Nonsense
Have a few pops on a Saturday night and tweet this kind of thing out?
Then you are forever known as the jerk who said ... " " ...
Definitely I need to learn this new tech miracle like I need a hole in the head.
“All I can say is that fat sow looks like she could be from Michigan...”
Yeah, probably Oakland County-ish or Ann Arbor and says “perfect” a lot.
Good for you.
I was thinking the same thing, given my experiences in Seattle, not to mention the elected officials it inflicts on the the state and the U.S.
Of course, one thing we have to take into account is that the city’s average I.Q. probably rose five percent upon the leave-taking of the great Mr. Douglas.
“In view of this elitists concept of America, I see no future without a vast and violent civil war that cleanses our earth of these people.”
I hope you are wrong. But, you probably aren’t.
We, as a nation, are way too polarized; so much, that it’s probable that the only two futures left to us are civil war or a schism. Either way, our future does not look too bright. I turn 66 this year, and I just retired. I knew America when she was at her apex, the real “shining city on the hill.”
Cornell? There’s your problem...poor thing was steeped for years in the culture of the ‘City of Evil.’
“... just ignore the riff-raf...”
You sound like you and the woman this story is about would get along just fine...
You need to get out of the south and leave us “riff-raf” to oursleves...
I saw that photo yesterday. It was not about this statement. She must have been on a “stupid” roll yesterday.
“BFA, Theatre ArtsStage Management.”
Soooo, she’s just a poser, eh? I see how that works!
Another arrogant Leftist who thinks she is smarter than everyone else, especially the heart of American. When, in fact, she is oblivious to facts and reality and is rather stupid herself.
In case anyone would like to reach out to the endearing woman: hello@timesharecmo.com
I just reported her LinkedIn profile for admin review because she is a intolerant, vulgar elitist with no respect for others outside her sphere of influence.
What a shame she is such a bigot...she has a great smile.
See my post before this one.
The “high pregnancy rate culture” in Seattle doesn’t mix as much with the rest of the kids. Also, there are so many people in cities that you can just bypass those that are not worth the effort. In middle america there just are not as many people.
Where I live, I’m shocked at all the 20 something single girls that are fat, tattooed smokers in cars with one tire in the junk yard. And I know plenty who’s goal in life is to get pregnant and live off the government in government housing. Seriously, that is their dream. And when you see their parents, you get a feel for why.
The girl my wife is a big sister to for a couple of years now lives with her grandmother. She was sexually abused by her uncle, and all of her aunts and uncles are into some kind of drugs. Her mother died of a drug overdose about three months ago.
Meanwhile, another girl in our church shows up with her mother and three sisters, as well as her grandmother, who always has her oxygen tank connected - and she is only in her mid-50s!
Meanwhile, the 14 year old girl here was molested and worse by her mother’s old boyfriend. He now lives in Texas. Now, they are going to move back in with him in Taxes and he’s apologized for what he did.
And here is the Kicker: The 14 year old is heading down first (bus ticket price stuff and mom needs fewer kids under foot as they get ready to move). Yeah, the 14 year old is going to be there ALONE for a few weeks with the mom’s boyfriend who had sex with her multiple times. And this whole thing is about the mom with such incredibly low self worth. We’ve tried to help these folks every way we could, but it’s like trying to domesticate a coyote.
There is a LOT of that here. It’s not the norm, but it is shockingly common. And in both cases, it can be traced back to the grandmother, and probably before that.
I’m not talking out of my butt on this. These problems are real. In many ways it is like a third world country here. And eastern KY is much worse.
I have family and life-long friends out there where she is now. They have been there making a good living all these years. They have not be very much over taken by the thinking, but it is pervasive.
I could not live there. The smug self-centered nature of the majority of the people, the wasteful spending, the pretentious life style and the anti-American attitude is poisonous.
I have loved visits and even enjoyed the comedy relief of the exposure to the culture, but it is a cancer on the body politic.
