General Motors has no plans to change where it produces small cars because of criticism from President-elect Donald Trump, the companys top executive said Sunday night.
CEO Mary Barra said the auto business has long lead times for where it produces vehicles, with decisions are made two to four years ahead.
Last week Trump threatened on Twitter to slap a border tax on GM for importing the compact Chevrolet Cruze to the U.S. from Mexico.

I don’t remember Mexico bailing out GM. Please tax the car Trump. Don’t you dare back down!
Somebody needs to be made an example of. Might as well be Government Motors.
The least Pres. Trump can do is make GM start paying the taxes that Ford and Chrysler and Toyota have to pay. Check it out. Government Motors has gone for the past eight years getting tax forgiveness from the IRS, blatantly unfair to other companies and the individual taxpayers who NEVER get forgiveness, no matter what tragedies befall them.
Good luck with that Mary.
GM can do whatever the heck they want.
But the cost of their cars will be increasing due to tariffs and their marketshare is apt to drop.
But it’s their call.
This will be fun.
So adding 35% to the price of the Cruze...I wonder how well it will sell in he U.S. That is now a part of costs analysis. Congress better not be stupid about this. Paul Ryan wants to add adjustable border taxes to he new tax code
Barky the Presidential Seal stole GM from the stockholders and gave it to his Union thug cronies.
Trump won’t be owning GM on Jan 21?
Don’t want a vehicle from an Eye-talian company anyway.
Is this tax forgiveness enshrined in law or is it an executive decision?
Talk about ungrateful companies. Time to go after GM hammer and tongs, Trump. Wipe their tax forgiveness deal, tax the hell out of them (especially their importation of Chinese parts) and see how loud the screaming gets.
That was Chrysler - the government seized them from Cerberus and sold them to Fiat and the UAW. GM was taken from the shareholders and run by the government, then sold off to the union and new shareholders.
I hope Trump will also reconsider some of the government grants given to GM and others for making electric and hybrid cars. These cars do NOT actually save any energy, and they do not deserve taxpayer subsidies. If fancy rich Greenies want to buy them, so they can show them off in their driveways, fine; but let them pay for them.
GM can suck ass.
Then they will pay.
Well, they already do. My last Chevy was kaput after 130K.
