President-elect Donald Trump's team decided not to call upon the services of the inauguration announcer who has worked every parade for the past 60 years, according to a local Washington station.
Trump is choosing not to use Charles Brotman, 89, to announce his inaugural parade breaking with decades of tradition that began with Brotman's first inaugural gig for Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1957.
Brotman told ABC News D.C. affiliate he was heartbroken to learn he wouldn't be announcing what would have been his 12th inaugural parade.
Ive been doing this for 60 years, Brotman told WJLA.
I was destroyed, he added.
Brotman, once known as the voice of the Washington Senators baseball team, said he had already started to prepare for the upcoming inaugural parade before he learned he was not going to have a role. . .

Agreed.
You hadn’t posted that I probably would have.
Instead of complaining, he should express heartfelt gratitude for the honor and privilege of working the inauguration all those years. He should show some class and wish his successor the best.
Some people just refuse to go away gracefully, and with dignity. Obama and this guy are perfect examples.
Trump is just trying to get a better deal out of the geezer.
No....not older them him...but in my 70’s and finally retired this year. Felt like I was taking work from someone putting kids through college or trying to buy a house etc...
Has he demanded an investigation yet?
Screamed that his mic be turned back on?
Anyone in the Trump camp bet a dollar on this fellow?
Where’s Beeks?
Just some observations:
On tradition. There may be a guy 85 years old who has wanted to do this for 56 years and hasn’t been able to because this guy is hogging the spotlight.
Regarding ability, do you think there isn’t someone who could do a better job than an 89 year old?
On the media, I wonder if it would even have been reported if he were a Republican and a Democrat was coming in? It would be time for diversity.
One thing I know, the next guy who does this for 60 years won’t be a Republican.
Trump invites a world class tenor to sing at his inaugural and Libturds go crazy and force the guy to decline the invitation.
Maybe Trump was trying to prevent this Snowflake from being subject to the Andrea Bocelli treatment.
It’s not a huge deal, or anything regarding national security. Let the pool old guy have his day. Who’s it going to hurt? I’m pro-tradition when it’s harmless.
Put him on a float and give him a space sitting in the box with the Trump family.
Declining to perform in the face of pressure is the sign of weakness in character. People who cave like that are basically admitting they are moral cowards.
They should think about the meanings of the songs they profess to love and some of the profound lyrics they sing to.
Really! Our 94-year-old State Rep here in GA (a Republican and WW2 vet) kept promising to retire for 3 election cycles, after 20+ years of service. Well-qualified replacements deferred a primary challenge. Finally, after breaking his word a third time, he got his ass primaried this year and lost. Instead of going out in a blaze of glory and honorary events, he was basically persona non gratis in the local party.
Fine, keep the old guy happy. Give him a dead mike and let him announce away. A personal tape could be made of his announcing and presented to him afterwards. Everyone remains happy. ;- )
Really?
Is that a big problem these days?

Thanks!
So basically he thinks the gig is his for life?
I have nothing against the guy, but this is a but much.
Not sure where this report originated, but at 89 I doubt he’s all that surprised that someone else might be doing the gig this year. Sounds more like someone is trying to make a big deal of it for him, or more pointedly against Trump.
I’ve been Santa for about 25 years now at a place I used to work. Each year I wonder if they’ll call me to do it again. If they don’t, they deemed it time to move on. That’s their business. I respect that totally.
I wish this guy many more years of happiness.
Well, it sure is there, with regard to McStain...
‘Declining to perform in the face of pressure is the sign of weakness in character. People who cave like that are basically admitting they are moral cowards’
Andrea Bocelli is BLIND. It has nothing to do with weakness of Character.
Reminds me of the English guy who applied for unemployment insurance ......he described his job as a coronation program seller.
Need to find someone younger like Vin Scully.
