Senators Murray, Cantwell, and Democratic Colleagues Demand Speaker Ryan Cease Harmful, Partisan Path Toward Defunding Planned Parenthood
Senators make clear in new letter to Speaker Ryan they are prepared to fight back to protect wellbeing and lives of millions of women, men, and families nationwide that rely on Planned Parenthood
Senators remind Speaker Ryan that President-elect Trump praised Planned Parenthood as doing very good work for millions of women and that families overwhelmingly support its work
(Washington, D.C.) Following an announcement that House Republicans will attempt to defund Planned Parenthood in reconciliation legislation repealing the Affordable Care Act, Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA), along with Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Tom Carper (D-DE), Bob Casey (D-PA), Chris Coons (D-DE), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Richard J. Durbin (D-IL), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Al Franken (D-MN), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Kamala Harris (D-CA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Martin Heinrich (D-NV), Mazie K Hirono (D-HI), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Gary Peters (D-MI), Jack Reed (D-RI), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Tom Udall (D-NM), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Mark Warner (D-VA), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) sent a letter to Speaker Paul Ryan demanding that he and Republicans drop attacks on the nations largest womens health care provider and put the health and wellbeing of women and families ahead of their partys extreme politics.
We are outraged at your promise to defund Planned Parenthood but we are not surprised since 2007 when Vice President-elect Pence first waged the battle to defund our nations largest provider of womens health care, we have seen 16 attempts and reached the brink of shutdown, wrote the Senators in the letter. Your decision to continue down this harmful, partisan path this year will put the wellbeing and lives of women nationwide at riskand we urge you to put those patients needs ahead of scoring political points.
In the letter, the Senators point out that Planned Parenthood serves roughly 2.5 million patients in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and that many families rely on Planned Parenthood as their primary source of health care. The Senators warn Republicans against doubling down on repeal and defunding Planned Parenthood as the overwhelming share of Americans69 percent of voters including 56 percent of Republicanssupport Planned Parenthood.
The women and men who rely on Planned Parenthood are Republicans and Democrats alikeand they did not vote for an extreme political agenda that undermines their access to quality, affordable health care at providers they trust. We urge you to stop the attack on Planned Parenthood immediately.
The full text of the letter is below and HERE:
January 6, 2017
The Honorable Paul Ryan
Speaker, U.S. House of Representatives
The Capitol Building
Washington, D.C. 20004
Dear Speaker Ryan:
As we begin this new Congress, we are outraged at your promise to defund Planned Parenthood as Republicans rush to rip apart the health care system, but we are not surprised. We have seen this before. In fact, since 2007 when Vice President-elect Pence first waged the battle to defund our nations largest provider of womens health care, we have seen 16 attempts and reached the brink of shutdown, led by extreme, right-wing Republicans to undermine and end womens access to care at clinics across the country. Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood would make America sick again by denying women access to vital, affordable health care services.
Your decision to continue down this harmful, partisan path this year will put the wellbeing and lives of women nationwide at riskand we urge you to put those patients needs ahead of scoring political points.
An overwhelming share of Americans69 percent of voters including 56 percent of Republicanssupport Planned Parenthood and oppose shutting down the federal government over its funding. One in five women uses Planned Parenthood as her primary means of health care. In fact, Planned Parenthood serves 2.5 million patients in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, sixty percent of whom are women and families who are Medicaid beneficiaries. In one-fifth of the counties in which they are located, Planned Parenthood sites are the sole safety-net family planning center. Doubling down on repeal and defunding Planned Parenthood ensures that women across the country must bear twice the burden.
Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood would harm communities who can least afford it, ultimately increasing health care costs. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) when scoring previous Republican proposals to defund Planned Parenthood made clear that the people most likely to experience reduced access to care would likely reside in areas without access to other health care clinics or medical practitioners who serve low-income populations. CBO even estimated that the Houses extreme right-wing bill to fully defund Planned Parenthood would cost taxpayers over $130 million because 45 percent of all births are paid for by Medicaid.
As you know, President-elect Trump praised Planned Parenthood on the campaign trail and affirmed that it has done very good work for millions of women. We urge you to reconsider putting partisan political fights ahead of womens access to health care. The women and men who rely on Planned Parenthood are Republicans and Democrats alikeand they did not vote for an extreme political agenda that undermines their access to quality, affordable health care at providers they trust. We urge you to stop the attack on Planned Parenthood immediately.
Sincerely,
###

I can read the original text of the Const. myself...still fail to see any mention of fascism, let alone RxR.
Good thing we have lawyers\judges, so I can learn what I missed

Was this poll done by the same people that had Hitlery up by 12 points a week before the election?
Get my tax dollars out of the baby killing business. Defund Planned Parenthood.
I think It’s disgusting to have to say Speaker Ryan. Wtf with this republican congress?????????????? Are they deaf, dumb, and blind??
I wish the rats would give us a huge list of all their demands at once, instead of just coming out every day with a new one. I mean, we’re all just dying to hear what they want for the next 8 years! How can we help?!?
Planned Parenthood is funded (in part) directly by the US government (lesser amounts from the state governments.)
Now, technically, none of that money is supposed to go to propaganda (er, publicity and political donations and fund-raising) efforts, but - when ANY extra money comes in to a company (and Planned Parenthood IS a major profitable company!) the other funds from other sources can be used for that propaganda.
Yes, it is disgusting.
I understand that men can be scum and not live up to their responsibilities. But I have never understood how a woman can kill the life growing inside her.
I’m trying to recall ANY scenario in my (long) lifetime in which Republicans demanded anything of Democrats.
Democrats refused for years and years to find a bipartisan way to deal with Republican party complaints about Planned Parenthood and their abortion vendetta against unborn babies.
Well the pendulum has swung. You should have figured out a compromise when you had political power. Planned Parenthood is the biggest bully on the political block. Look at how they ruined the Susan G Kormen breast cancer foundation when that group refused to pay its potection money to Planned Parenthood.
Karma has come back to Planned Parenthood for all the attacks it lead on specific politicians and non-profits.
I look forward to seeing Planned Parenthood broke and disbanded.
I always find that there are ways around this which would make the liberals go apoplectic. What I would suggest is since liberals are saying it isn’t about abortion, but about women’s health, Ryan and gang should say PP will continue to be funded as long as there isn’t an abortion element involved. Any PP can operate as an abortion clinic but they will not be funded with taxpayer money.
Let the rats decide whether they want abortion or women’s health issues addressed by PP.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
So Ryan was actually wrong to support the Omnibus spending bill which provided funding for abortions imo.
Hypothetically speaking, given the constitutional division of federal and state powers, the founders would have probably expected the Senate to kill any House appropriations bill that provided federal funds to help pay for abortions.
Note that, unlike the rights that the states have expressly amended the Constitution to expressly protect, such right evidenced by the Bill of Rights and other rights amendments, the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect the so-called right to have an abortion.
In other words, the state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices who decided Roe v. Wade against the states wrongly stole state powers and used those powers to establish from the bench the fictitious constitutional right to have an abortion.
Doing so opened the door for corrupt lawmakers to exploit likewise low-information women in the following way. Lawmakers used the 19th Amendment, in conunction with the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, to get themselves elected with the promise of providing federal abortion funding, such women evidently not understanding that the fed have no express constitutional authority to tax and spend for abortion purposes as evidenced by the Gibbons excerpt above.
Remember in November 18 !
Since Trump entered the 16 presidential too late for patriots to make sure that there were state sovereignty-respecting candidates on the primary ballots, patriots need make sure that such candidates are on the 18 primary ballots so that they can be elected to support Trump in draining the unconstitutionally big federal government swamp.
Noting that the primaries probably start in Iowa and New Hampshire in February, patriots need to challenge candidates for federal office in the following way. Patriots need to ask candidates why the Founding States made the Constitutions Section 8 of Article I (to limit (cripple) the federal governments powers.)
Patriots also need to find candidates that are knowledgeable of the following Supreme Court clarifications of the federal governments limited powers, starting again with the Gibbons excerpt.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress [emphases added]. Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]. United States v. Butler, 1936.
Note that such a Congress will also be able to finish draining the swamp with respect to getting the remaining state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices off of the bench.
I just reformatted your cartoon:
Between the img and the smc= I put height=500. The bigger number makes it larger and a smaller number makes it smaller.
What you say is an exact description of the “laundering operation” PP does with a wink from the Demoncats.
