Florida shooter turns out to be father who was admitted to psychiatric hospital, had many encounters with US authorities.
Esteban Santiago-Ruiz, 26, who killed 5 and wounded 8 in a shooting attack at Fort Lauderdale's airport on Friday walked into an FBI office in Alaska two months ago claiming the US government had "forced him to watch ISIS videos" and to fight for ISIS.
After an investigation, Santiago-Ruiz was admitted to a psychiatric hospital, and stayed there a short time before being released. His brother said Santiago-Ruiz's girlfriend had called the family in recent months to report the deterioration in his mental stability.
Santiago-Ruiz is the father of a three-month-old, and at the time of the attack, worked as a security guard.
Santiago-Ruiz grew up in Puerto Rico and served with the island's National Guard. In 2010, he was deployed to Iraq and served for a year as a combat engineer. He then returned home and continued his military service in Alaska.
Though he was discharged in August for unsatisfactory performance, he still holds an active US military ID.
In addition, Santiago-Ruiz has a concealed-carry permit.

The guy walks into an Anchorage FBI office, and two months later guns down 13 people.
Not to get too personal but the instant I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder with psychotic features I took all my guns to the local gunshop for a fire-sale for cash.
My shrink said this was a good move but I had a couple of pistols that I had sunk some money into for tuning and it hurt to give them up.
I now have machetes for home defense.

It’s my best guess that this guy suffered a first schizophrenic episode near or after his discharge from the armed forces. He would be about the right age for onset of that horrible illness, and the symptoms of hallucinations and delusions sound right on, though the extreme violence is somewhat unusual. I wouldn’t blame the army without a lot more info. Wait and see on all that.
Many normal, well-balanced people "hear voices." You might hear your mother's or father's voice, giving you advice - long after your parents have passed away. Or you might hear the voice of your conscience. This is completely normal and healthy.
But the MSM is going to repeat the phrase "he heard voices telling him to _______ ," ad nauseum. They desperately want this crime to have been caused by "mental illness," not inspired by ISIS.
