A mass shooting at Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport Friday left five dead and dozens wounded, and the suspect apparently kept the gun used in the attack in his checked luggage.
The TSA allows passengers to carry firearm while traveling through US airports, but strict rules govern how passengers are supposed to handle them.

and it is illegal for the TSA to open the gun case and/or touch the gun. “TSA” locks should not be used.
I have transported numerous times as well.
What I foresee coming down the road after this is hunting weapons being shipped via Something similar to a FFL transfer. Added cost for the good guys.
BOHICA
It’s not about guns. It’s about insane maniacs, or jihadis.
I don't think they do it like that any more.
>> Muslims are apparently permitted by President 0bama to discharge firearms inside of airport terminals <<
Sure, as long as the shooter is from Puerto Rico and has served in the Alaska National Guard.
What if your flight begins and ends in states allowing you to own weapons - but you fly over NYC, Chicago, Washington, DC, Maryland or NJ?
Seems you are breaking their laws - and they can legally be where you land to arrest you - for possessing a weapon in their communist state.....
?????????
As long as you are traveling, and not in physical possession while traveling through the areas, then you are OK.
BUT if you ever find yourself unexpectedly landing in NYC, then you must NOT take physical possession of your bags containing firearms for any reason, but instead make the airline get the bag to your destination. Practically every year I see a news story of some guy getting arrested over this.
75 caliber ? that's a dammed pumpkin slinger!!!
20mm (around .75 caliber) is the usual cutoff between a ‘gun’ and a ‘cannon’, so 20mm isn’t considered ‘small arms’.
They both mentioned HR 218 and how it now allowed people to check guns in baggage like it was a new thing.
.............................................................
For over thirty years I have been traveling internationally with firearms. Rules vary only slightly with different carriers or different countries. Normally, I check my baggage through, then check my firearms through at a special counter which handles “special attention” baggage. Personally, I never travel with ammo, but could according to the laws. My brother, who often goes on Safari, does carry ammo on his flights.
In France, in order to transport firearms in a car, train, bus, or plane, one must possess a hunting license, or FFT Membership. England is spastic about firearms, so I never fly through England when carrying arms. Sweden requires permission to enter the country with firearms, otherwise they may be left in storage with officials at the airport if one is passing through. As I said, there are slight variations, but generally it’s easy to be informed. In 2015, I landed at Fort Lauderdale with two long guns in a single case and the barrel of my Model twelve in my suitcase. No problem.
No, that’s been debunked. They interviewed the stews and pilots, o arguments.
Perhaps he simply changed his mind and became complicit when he ran out of ammo. We’ll soon find out, or maybe not depending how the tale is spun.
They may be confused because of those treated at area hospitals in the area. In addition to the dead and wounded when shot, there’s another 3 dozen injuries, mainly broken bones from scrambling to safety.
Surprised there were not any heart attacks.
There was no problem on the flights. The altercation, (’I’m not even Jewish” and scuffle) happened in the garage with the other guy they cuffed. It appears the result of the mayhem that followed the shooter already in custody.
They are questioning that on the other thread as well. He had been busted on some porno charge before and they removed 3 guns and his laptop.
There’s conflict within the background story.
Was he being conditioned or groomed and just went off too soon?
Nothing should be surprising.
Link? I’ve not seen anything about this ... Thanks.
Of course the basic TSA rules must be followed but more importantly you need to check with your airline regarding their rules. Its been a while for me but NO airline allows curbside baggage check-in for baggage with weapons.
I like Southwest Airlines and they were always polite but they did ensure in a secured area that your weapon and ammo were properly secured. I’ve read of nightmares checking weapons on other airlines.
I was listening /half watching to this live on Fox. They took an older balding small guy away in cuffs. It was during or after they closed terminal 1 and the whole place went crazy. The sheriff’s spokesmen said it was unrelated to the shooter.
Someone kept saying, “he said, “”I’m not even Jewish.”” This was repeated a bunch and people wrongly assumed those were the shooter’s words on flight.
It was something either said by this bald guy or someone he got into an argument with in the garage or Terminal 1. We know people were getting knocked down in the rush for safety and falling about.
In addition to the ones shot, 36 more people were taken to area hospitals. The majority of those had limb fractures. Nearly all of these are adults.
Delta Airlines has already made a statement- no problems aboard the flight.
“and he went all ptsd rage on them.”
I would say it was more of a situation where “he went all jihad rage on them.”
