Perhaps it is going into preexisting buildings as opposed to starting from ground up.

Trump is racist taking away jobs from Mexicans. Some fruity head will paste him with that triangulation —— wait and see.

There's more to this story than meets the eye.

Freepers who have a very thorough understanding of how the auto industry operates have weighed in on this subject several times over the last few years, and their posts have been real eye-openers. One big surprise I got is that the primary reason companies like Ford open plants in Mexico is that this is the only way they can build compact cars and sell them at a price that is low enough to attract buyers. Ford doesn't make much money on these cars and would rather not produce a single one of them, but they must produce -- and sell -- a lot of them in order to meet the Federal EPA fuel efficiency standards for the overall fleet of vehicles they sell in the U.S. And the "sell" part of this is the most difficult part of their business, because a compact car produced by Ford in the U.S. would be priced at a level that would effectively chase its potential buyers to a mid-sized car ... which hurts Ford with the EPA because they aren't selling enough fuel-efficient cars.

Long story short ...

If Ford is canceling its plans to build its Focus model in Mexico, this tells me that they are pretty damn sure the EPA under Trump is going to completely overhaul the fuel efficiency regulations.

I would hope that people would vote for jobs over some democratic policy wonk, but the dues still go to the union leadership, so while the rank and file may not, their money will.

The only businesses going down the toilet from hereon in will be newspapers - for obvious reasons.

I wish, but consider this:
Every library and reading room and every foreign newspaper has a subscription to the NYT.
Fish vendors still need something to wrap their wares in.
Bird cages still need something for the droppings.
Homeless people still need some kind of bedding.
Kindling for fireplaces (except Alaska where it's now illegal to keep warm in the winter).

Can you imagine the response if Trump tells the rank and file, “we have jobs - lots of good paying jobs - but just not union jobs...you want ‘em? Or would you rather watch your wife work at a call center and Burger King and have your grown kids living in your basement because the union is in the picture?”

So Mexico was getting 1.6 billion - But MI is getting less than half of that ?

It is very likely that expanding existing facilities is less expensive than building a new one. However, wages will undoubtedly he much higher in MI. Ford is doing the right thing for Americans.

[It’ll be fun to see how DJT reacts to Democrat obstruction of his appointments.]

Obama might have had a pen and a phone, but P/E Trump has Twitter and a pissed off electorate.

I guarantee he will use both to ensure his opponents are reminded that any obstruction will not be tolerated.

"But...but for those folks who have lost their job right now because a plant went down the Mexico, that isn’t going to make you feel better. And so what we have to do is to make sure that folks are...are trained for the jobs that are coming in now because some of those jobs of the past are just not going to come back, and when somebody says, like the person you just mentioned who I’m not going to advertise for, that he’s going to bring all these jobs back, well how exactly are you gonna do that? What you gonna do?

There’s...there’s no answer to it. He just says, “Well, I’m going to negotiate a better deal.” Well, how...what...how exactly are you gonna negotiate that? What...what magic wand do you have? And usually, the answer is, he doesn’t have an answer.

I would be pleasantly surprised if relations between the union and a Trump lead Republican party changed, but I think the chances of a UFO landing in my yard and bigfoot getting has better odds.

Yes, all correct; however, their payroll - although clearly falling as they hire increasing numbers of sub-literate hacks - is still in the millions of dollars.

They won’t be able to make that payroll for much longer.
