A stunning case of corruption inside the Department of Homeland Security was overshadowed by headlines about Russia and Israel this past week. Yet, federal employees accepting millions of dollars in bribes to avoid doing their job, is certainly worth a look.
Hundreds of DHS employees have "looked the other way" as drugs crossed the border because cartels have made them offers they can't refuse. Other employees have sold green cards and other documents illegally. More from The New York Times:
It was not an isolated case. A review by The New York Times of thousands of court records and internal agency documents showed that over the last 10 years almost 200 employees and contract workers of the Department of Homeland Security have taken nearly $15 million in bribes while being paid to protect the nations borders and enforce immigration laws.
No wonder our immigration system is so broken.
In order to address the internal issues, the department has hired more investigators, offered ethics training and is administering polygraph tests to new applicants, The Times reports.
The Times report does not include the gifts, trips or money that DHS employees have stolen, the editors note.
Once the inside corruption is taken care of, Donald Trump's administration can get to work on building a wall along the southern border, install better aerial surveillance and send more agents down there to be on the patrol.
The scandals that keep on giving.......thankfully, Trump will be our next President!

Homeland Security seeks $41.2 billion budget for 2016
February 4, 2015 By BioPrepWatch Reports
Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson announced a $41.2 billion budget request Monday for the 2016 fiscal year.
The budget would improve the unity of effort at the department, Johnson said, focusing on harmonizing DHS business processes. Along with the budget, a new Common Appropriations Structure was also submitted to Congress, which would standardize financial planning, programming and budgets for all DH agencies, Johnson said.
There are five areas the department focuses on each year, and the budget is in alignment with those five missions, Johnson said.
<><> The first mission is to prevent terrorism and enhance security in the country by implementing security for the land, air and at sea.
<><> The next mission is to secure and manage the countrys borders, and reduce the number of illegal immigrants and amount of contraband getting into the United States.
<><> The third mission includes enforcing and administering immigration laws and providing safe and secure detention of illegal immigrants in federal custody if they are a flight risk or a public safety concern.
<><> The fourth mission deals with safeguarding and securing cyberspace, which impacts economic security. The 2016 budget would invest in technology and staff to reduce cybercrime and improve the security of federal network defenses.
<><> The fifth mission, Johnson said, is to strengthen national preparedness and resilience so the country can prepare and respond to any type of disaster.
Johnson said before Congress approves any funding for the next fiscal year lawmakers should approve funding for the current year.
The Presidents FY 2016 Budget provides the resources necessary for the Department of Homeland Security to further strengthen our efforts to fulfill our wide-ranging missions, while also being agile and vigilant in the face of ever-evolving threats and recent world events, Johnson said. But prior to acting on the FY 2016 Budget, I urge Congress to fully fund DHS for the rest of this fiscal year, as the current continuing resolution is disruptive, creates uncertainty, and impedes efficient resource planning and execution.

I live near the border there are too many law enforcement living above what should be their means.
Amen...There's gonna be a new sheriff in town.
Anyone who takes a bribe from a drug cartel should die in prison.
Bump!
Arrest, prosecute, convict, execute.
When cartel people can freely cross back and forth, we aren’t going to be immune to cartel intimidation and bribery.
Build the wall.
Is that like a certain elevated political office visiting Central America
and suddenly $73 Million shows up in a personal bank account in Belize ?
In the day of lawlessness, when laws are ignored and there is no enforced "Law of the Land"
certain peoples ethics are 'bought off' by the promise of big money.
NO WAY! The US Government turning a blind eye to drug smuggling? You mean like the golden triangle in the Vietnam era? Like the Contra wars, the CIA and Mena airport in the 80s? Like the way we carefully forbid our men from damaging the poppy harvest in Afghanistan and heroin production exploded after we invaded? like fast and furious giving weaponry to Sinaloa? Like HSBC and Wachovia and Wells Fargo laundering hundreds of billions of cartel money?
The only thing I see different this time is that individuals were benefitting rather than the policy makers. dirtbags all.
Clearly they’re underpaid.
This bad, huh?
Well, maybe not surprised at the dollar amounts. What might be more telling is what proportion of these people were in on the take. A proportion that might have been tempted to grow because of cynicism over Barky’s intentions.
What agencies in DHS are we talking about? Why the generic “officials” camouflage? It looks like they are smearing the agents when it’s contract employees who are taking the bribes.
Good synopsis.
Yep, from the recent reports of the huge amount of drugs coming in from Mexico it couldn’t be happening if a lot of our people weren’t being paid off.
Sickening.
Right on the mark!
Charge everyone who took payoffs with treason and after a trial hang the guilty.
In order to address the internal issues, the department has hired more investigators, offered ethics training and is administering polygraph tests to new applicants...
One can only note that polygraph tests are not mentioned
for current personnel.
Random drug testing should be the norm for all government
employees and politicians.
