The streets of San Francisco are used to weird smells. However, on Wednesday morning, a mysterious rotten-egg and sulfur-like odor that baffled city and federal agencies and prompted dozens of phone calls of complaint.

The calls initially came from the downtown area and then moved toward the Marina, Sunset and Richmond neighborhoods. SFist said complaints also poured in from Bayview, the Tenderloin, Nob Hill, the Marina, SoMa and the Mission.
Officials with SF Environment, San Francisco Public Works and the citys Department of Emergency Management, as well as Recology, were reportedly notified, KQED reports.

“Why Does San Francisco Smell Like Sulfur?”
Because that’s what brimstone smells like. With that in mind it’s time for the good people to leave San Francisco and not look back as they leave.

Not usually a good sign.
I’d get radon monitors in place ASAP
This can sometimes be a precursor of a shallow quake of sizable amplitude.
A jump in radon would validate it as a clear possibility.

Here in Colorado there are a few hot springs that smell like sulphur.
the strongest one I know is in a town called Hot Sulphur Springs. Wonderful spot to relax, once you get used to the sulphur smell
perhaps some new cracks have opened underground and you're smelling hot sulphur..If it is flowing underground, it could explain why the smell seems to be moving also

I drove semi-near there this last week...down I-5 on way to San Diego.
There was a strong sulfur smell along I-5 both of my trip down and on my way back
