A friend in the Air Force said that an F-16 pilot was teasing a low flying SR-71 in Korea; calling him an unmaneuverable cow that deserved a sidewinder up the tail-pipe. The SR-71 pilots just said “Try it!” and disappeared in a sonic boom before the F-16 pilot could blink.
Probably didn’t happen but still a good story
Kind of like "British Airways pilot, have you not been to Frankfort before?" "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark, and we didn't land."
I was stationed at Kadena 69-early 71 and they ran missions west from there with what locals called the “Habu.” SR-71s named for the island snake species.
I’d watch them take off and in what seemed like the blink of an eye, they were off west climbing and out of sight. When they landed, they came in from the west up high and did a deep slope 360 to land. Amazing plane.
