Singer George Michael has died aged 53, his publicist has said.
The star, who launched his career with Wham! in the 1980s and later continued his success as a solo performer, is said to have "passed away peacefully at home".
Thames Valley Police said South Central Ambulance Service attended a property in Goring in Oxfordshire at 13:42 GMT.
Police say there were no suspicious circumstances. Michael, who was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in north London, sold more than 100m albums throughout a career spanning almost four decades.
Earlier this month it was announced that producer and songwriter Naughty Boy was working with Michael on a new album.
In a statement, the star's publicist said: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.
"The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

Only a few years older than I am now. I best prepare my soul. I’ve done what I can. I would like more time than that.
If God wants you. He’s going to take you. All you can do is prepare your soul and find salvation.
“The Back Lash”,,
Yes, That’s What did Him in.
I used to watch MTV, just to see Linda do her thing.
Did I need a sarcasm tag?
In Charlie Sheen’s interview, they said if he missed just one day of pills, it could allow AIDS to advance. They said it was a concern for him due to alcohol or drug use messing up his judgment for staying on the regimen. Certainly could’ve been a problem for George too.
I wish more Christians had the Christlike attitude that you have expressed.
I wasn’t a fan, but it seems I remember a song he did with something about Jesus in it that was pretty.
May every believer in Christ always remember that whenever a lost person dies, not even God Himself, takes pleasure in their death...
“Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?” (Ezekiel 18:23)
That’s exactly what the leftist establishment wants you to believe...that homosexuals are victims of discrimination and bigotry. Total nonsense in this country in this day and age. Even if there was discrimination, there is no link between that and substance abuse...certainly never once have I heard people claim blacks abuse more substances because they’re victims of discrimination, even though they constantly claim they are victims of discrimination.
What you have here tend to be troubled people who in all fairness may have been victims of sexual abuse at a young age. The homosexuality as well as the substance abuse are all products of a disordered, neurotic mind and unresolved psychological issues.
In some cases, maybe you can write it off as complete hedonism, in which case the people will seek it through sex, drugs, alcohol and anything else. A heterosexual lifestyle demands a lot more personal responsibility by the nature of the sexes. The shortest and easiest route to a hedonistic sexual lifestyle, unless you’re Brad Pitt, is a homosexual lifestyle.
but if it were, we would expect a marked decrease in such pathologies among homosexuals in the West in the last twenty years due to the relaxation of any such stigmas, and even the promotion of homosexuality as normal. As far as I know, there is no such decrease, even in the age of “gay marriage”.
Totally forgot about Sheen. What a mess he made of his life with drugs and booze.
Apparently, nobody woke him up, before he went.
Let me guess, you’re female?
So 80s music was the last decade of American music I am able to identify with. Still love it.
There is no way male homosexuals could do what they do to each other without some significant degree of disgust and self-loathing, thus the frequently drunken, drugged-up, and anonymous nature of their assignations. They also rationalize the pangs of their conscience by blaming the approbation of "society."
He was just relaxing and “Wham!”
After seeing the final photos of a very heavy and bloated George Michael, I may have to revise my initial thought that he probably died from AIDS.
He was pretty heavy.
Sad.
“Interesting” - curse you iPad spell checker...
“Careless Whisper” is about the only Wham! song that I like that much. I totally dig the sax solo, as I love many sax solos.
