A "shameful" abstention by the U.S. in a United Nations Security Council vote Friday allowed passage of a resolution condemning Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank.
The resolution was put forward by New Zealand, Malaysia, Venezuela and Senegal after Egypt withdrew it Thursday under pressure from Israel and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
It was adopted with 14 votes in favor, to a round of applause, after U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power abstained. It is the first resolution the Security Council has adopted on Israel and the Palestinians in nearly eight years.
Reaction from U.S. Republicans and Jewish leaders around the world was swift and sharp.
"This is absolutely shameful," said House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis. "Today's vote is a blow to peace that sets a dangerous precedent for further diplomatic efforts to isolate and demonize Israel."
The Obama White House, under heavy pressure from the Israeli government and its supporters to veto the resolution, kept everyone guessing until the vote whether it would stop shielding Israel from council resolutions and permit it to pass by abstaining.

Thanks for the correction.
The UN exists because the U.S. houses it headquarters and pretty much funds its existence.
So his statement means absolutely nothing.
“...suspend or significantly reduce United States assistance to the United Nations.
Cut all USA money off to the UN and have them move their headquarters to an Islamic state, as it is they who seem to have the run of the UN, along with communists.
Proof that Obama is a JEW HATING MUSLIM.
Bibi knows he only has to deal with this POS for 28 more days.
Vindictive little runt (rhymes with) Obama is really going to be for one more month.
The petulant man-child once again shows his disdain for Israel.
,Either way I presumed obama would get his war before he left... just not this way.
get ready folks...

I could imagine this ticking off Trump enough that he does something unprecedented to punish the UN once he’s in office. Trump doesn’t play by the old rules.
What the hell is up with New Zealand? Is that country infested with libtards or muslims?
Get the UN out of the USA and the USA out of the UN.
Perfectly stated.
Pretty despicable. Obama exacts personal vendetta against Netanyahu on his way out, destabilizing the Middle East in the process.
The resolution does much more than condemn settlements. It gives terrorists an alleged “moral authority” for violence. Terrorist acts will increasingly be done in the name of this resolution.
Also on the wall of shame: New Zealand, Venezuala, Malaysia, and Senegal. New Zealand is the most disappointing and shocking of all.
I hope New Zealand never wins another international test match in rugby ever again. Take your haka and shove it up your kiwi a**.
Trump needs to get the U.N. headquarters out of our Country entirely. They are not on Israel’s nor our side. They are an Islamic front supported by other like-minded countries. No need for them to exist, A corrupt, graft filled entity. Get rid of it ASAP after January 20th, President Trump.
As we near a Christian holiday, Obama gives Muslims a reason to celebrate. Disgusting!!!
“So what is the Big, big difference as your opinion implied.”
A Jew is a patriot of the land of Israel and a true believer in god. A Jewish person is a self inflated ego who thinks he is the better of those he perceives as less fortunate or intelligently challenged.
Bibi is a Jew. Robert Reich is Jewish. Make sense?
Funny how there are no boycotts or condemnations over that issue today, while Tibet remains under tyrannical occupation.
Thanks. Glad to see this. Hope for follow-through.
