In Australia, and around the world, we have been living this presidential transition with you. We watched the debates on our lunch breaks, we scrolled through news on our phones as the voting results were announced, in the warm light of a spring day.
Since the election I have cried many times, in the shower, in the car, as the conventions that define liberal Western democracy are stripped away by Donald J. Trump, with every distressful appointment, each impulsive outburst. I have embarrassment of grief for a government that is not mine and for a country that does not belong to me. It feels as if were mourning the death of an idea called America.
Visiting America itself gave us the sensation of having stepped into the television, into something bigger and better. For a time when I was a teenager my father worked in the coal industry in West Virginia. He would return with stories about new things we could not imagine, like cable television with 50 stations. Packed in his suitcase were running shoes for us, in styles that had not arrived here yet. That was more than 20 years ago.
For all the intractable problems in our region, there is a sense of forward movement. When we visit America now, it feels like the opposite, like decay. Roads, airports, an economy, perhaps even a society, falling to pieces. We are left in awe by the extreme poverty as well as the extreme wealth. And maybe it is because of your poetry about yourself that the turning current has been harder for Americans themselves to see.

I think that sums it up nicely ...
“Letting them down?”
This moonbat Aussie broad should thank her lucky stars that Americans, including some of my relatives, helped saved Australia from the prospect of a Japanese invasion during World War II.
How nice to be lectured by some foreign leftist asshat.
Her screed belongs under humor. I really thought it was satire.
But if she really wants an answer to her question, how about “Because you have been letting us down for more than 40 years”.
Exactly what I was thinking.
I wouldn’t go to this crazy loon who calls herself a “doctor” if I was freaking dying!
The poor lady has been steeped in leftism since birth. The America we once knew? Try going a bit further back in history to get a larger perspective.
Into a pit.
Self serving spoiled brat....she thinks she knows the US. Yet never once does she speak of our founders who pledged their lives, their honor, and their wealth in order to set us on the way. Nor does she speak of any of the documents, speeches, constitutional conventions, or any of the writings that make us great. Her history of the US seems to begin in the mid last century.
In all of that she misses who and what we are. We live Teump because he knows what came before
True... she COULD just go away. Don’t go away mad, just go away. It isn’t your season any more.
Enjoy Christmas, knowing that your tears bring great joy to many.
Into a pit.
P.S. I wonder if she's an assisted-suicide believer. Maybe that's the sort of forward movement she has in mind. Let's get this aging and dying thing over with, no sense thinking about what one might do prior to that point, or which might even stave it off in measure.
Blow it our yer arse, Sheila!
Exactly. She cites all of these statistics about the long-term decline of the U.S. relative to the rest of the world, and especially China. Yeah, that’s why Trump got elected dumb*ss!!!!
What a stupid bitch.
Obama would “necessarily” destroy the coal industry.
She cites it as a point of inspiration.
She thought an ever more Santa-Clausy government was the fix to every ill, rather than the recipe for coming up short of funds to fix the most crying needs!
Mistake closing the mental hospitals and putting the inmates back out on the street.
Their online Twitter tears are like drinking a fine wine, or aged Scotch/bourbon.

Some of the best ones are where they haven't gone totally berserk, and started tweeting a couple hundred times a day [@sarahkendzior].
That way, you can scroll down to November 8th and before, and the fun begins. :)
See my post #59. :)
