Hate Speech Hysteria at the University of Oklahoma
American Thinker ^ | December 17, 2016 | David Deming

Posted on 12/17/2016 6:48:37 AM PST by Kaslin

In March of 2015, people across the U.S. were shocked to see a video showing two members of the University of Oklahoma SAE fraternity chanting racial epithets. The reaction of the OU administration was swift and draconian. The offending students were expelled without due process and the entire SAE house was immediately shuttered. Legal scholars, writing in the Washington Post and USA Today, described the university's actions as a violation of the student's First Amendment rights. As Eugene Volokh noted, "racist speech is constitutionally protected." Solely as a result of this incident, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) named OU as one of the ten worst colleges in the U.S. for free speech. Greg Lukianoff, President of FIRE, singled out OU as the most intolerant of all institutions because its actions were taken as a signal by other universities that they could "toss freedom of speech and basic fairness out of the window."

Racial tensions on the OU campus have not subsided. They remain high, and if anything, are now more pronounced than before the 2015 SAE incident. The campus is in the grip of a collective hysteria. The largest single factor driving campus tensions is the student newspaper, the OU Daily. The Daily is perhaps the worst newspaper in the country, college or otherwise. In recent years it has degenerated into a publication entirely devoted to promoting radical left-wing ideology. The newspaper staff sees racism, homophobia, islamophobia, xenophobia, inequity, and social injustice everywhere. In 2014, the OU Daily became the laughingstock of the nation for an article claiming that nude-colored women's underwear was racist.

Here is a link to an article about Professor David Deming. He is certainly one of the most courageous academians on a US campus.

Cakes were baked from Betty Cracker cake mix.

Put on the skillet,
Slip on the lid,
Mama's gonna make
A little short'nin' bread.
That ain't all
She's gonna do,
Mama's gonna make
A little coffee, too.

.
Mama's little baby loves
Short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves
Short'nin' bread,
Mama's little baby loves
Short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves
Short'nin' bread.

.
Three little children,
Lyin' in bed
Two were sick
And the other 'most dead
Sent for the doctor
And the doctor said,
"Give those children some
Short'nin' bread."

.
Mama's little baby loves
Short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves
Short'nin' bread,
Mama's little baby loves
Short'nin', short'nin',
Mama's little baby loves
Short'nin' bread.

Not true. The republican majorities in almost two thirds of the states that continue to fund public universities and support violation of students’ constitutional rights are the most offensive of things.

Know your enemy.

I wonder how long it will take for these universities to fail because white families won’t send their kids there. Those degrees in medieval classical studies and twelfth century Tibetan poetry won’t make it in the real world, plus with a couple of hundred grand in student loans.

But say the word “n*gger”, and you’re eliminated.

Or given a Grammy and an Oscar.

Even Barack Obama used that word in his Grammy award winning book on tape.

Hi there thread nanny! The opening mentioned:

“In 2014, the OU Daily became the laughingstock of the nation for an article claiming that nude-colored women’s underwear was racist.”

I compared this absurdity to the GS discontinuing Brownies.

Looking at this thread — especially in light of posts like 5 and 22 — I’m thinking you will be very busy, you’re amazing to have singled me out for going off subject.

The university in general, is probably the most offensive thing in America.

Now there’s a thought the subject of which is worthy of critical analysis. Personally I fully agree with it. Wait, I forgot about the Democrat Party. The university must be the second, not the first most offensive thing.

My daughter attends OU. So far, no issues, she seems to be enjoying it, her circle of friends seem nice and her grades are good. Unfortunately most of the world has gone PC these days.

Agreed. I certainly don’t approve of the woman’s behavior but there is never an excuse to hit a woman.

Someone in the thread posted that if it wasn’t a black male and white female, most wouldn’t have an issue. If a white male did that to a woman, he needs to be in jail too. It has nothing to do with race.

Reminds me of a Sherlock Holmes movie I watched last night where Dr. Watson was telling Holmes about some obscure astrological phenomena. Holmes lectured him that such information was worthless because it serves absolutely no useful purpose in the day-to-day lives of anyone.

This quote from the article sums it up:

While conservatives view leftists as people with bad ideas, leftists don’t look upon conservatives as people who even have ideas — they’re just bad people who must be rooted out, suppressed, and excluded.

How did they come by such a messed up university?

I also find this odd. The university in question is not in Berkeley, San Francisco, West Hollywood or Provincetown but in what is arguably the most conservative state in the Union.

That univeristy has been offending me for at least 6 decades. It is generally where the liberals of Oklahoma go to congregate and hone their insanity, well off kids go to party and brain cells go to die.

It has about a mindless a football following as Arkansas.

Sigh....I'm an OU alum; graduated in 1969. Those were the days when OU football was consistently #1 in the nation, and campus life was at once calm, exciting, and fun.

Also VERY conservative. Yes, there were a few "radicals" springing up here and there, but they were considered a joke.

OU, back in the day, was populated mainly by bible-believing kids from Oklahoma and neighboring states.

My freshman class was almost 1/3 from the Northeast (including me) because the cost of education was so low.

I suspect the infiltration from liberal areas probably contributed to what OU has become.

Sad.....
