DEVELOPING – A jury in South Carolina Thursday convicted Dylann Roof in the racially-motivated shootings that killed nine black church members during a Bible study in Charleston last year.

The jury of nine white people and three black people deliberated less than two hours before returning a verdict, finding him guilty on all counts against him. Roof, 22, faced 33 federal charges, including hate crimes and obstruction of the practice of religion.

Why are the headlines focusing on the “hate crime” conviction rather than the MURDER aspect?
I suppose there are a few murders that are “love crimes”, but I’m not sure that’s the point.
We have a zillion fire ants in SC. Stake him down, coat him with maple syrup, and let him die a death of millions of fire ants. That would be very fitting.
What a sad burden on the jury, to decide his guilt before Christmas, and life or death after.
I could not imagine what must go thru the minds of the families of the victims.

Agree. Dylan Roof is guilty of first degree murder, not of any phony "hate crime." Who other than the professional race agitators care whether his motives were personal or political/racial, murder is murder.
I think people basically have a 1st amendment right to lie and to hate as long as they don’t act on it. It is an idea, right?
The legal system should punish people’s actions, not their motives and thoughts. Roof should be executed for murder, that would be an act of justice. Incarcerating or executing anyone for “hate crimes” is to use the criminal justice system to regulate and penalize people’s thoughts - a concept out of Orwell.
Nikki Haley is an embarrassment to the state of South Carolina, on par with Senator Lindsey Graham. With any luck the Lt. Governor McMaster, who will take over when she goes to serve as ambassador to the UN, will do better.

Why add on asinine federal charges?
He deserves the death penalty. Now.
Not a sentence of nine murders in the first degree, plus five years for each instance of "hate crimes".
