The legal system should punish people’s actions, not their motives and thoughts. Roof should be executed for murder, that would be an act of justice. Incarcerating or executing anyone for “hate crimes” is to use the criminal justice system to regulate and penalize people’s thoughts - a concept out of Orwell.
