Because Trump knows since he’s not President that they don’t have to give him the names and likely will not. The reason is two-fold IMO, one, to put them on notice hoping most of them scurry, and 2, see who screeches the loudest and look at them for covering up their illegal activities. Smart!

Simple solution, one mass email to all DOE employees at all levels, you are fired effective immediately!

Fire ‘em all, and then rehire those who sign an affidavit saying they did not work on climate policy.

You have five minutes to clear out, and after that you’ll be escorted to the door, ready or not.

the bulk of its workforce — nearly 100,000 employees — comes from private contractors.\

Excellent news! Much easier to let them all go just by giving them notice.

Put out a reward of 10 Bitcoin on the deepnet and on Wikileaks. You’ll have the names before the month is out.

Fire the ones that can be fired.
Send the ones who can’t be fired to live in tents. In North Dakota. In winter. A long way from any town or urban area.
Special assignment on energy conservation and climate change, doncha know?

They regulate nukes.

One of several agencies that does so. Those duties can be easily reassigned.

Personally I'd feel a whole lot better if the U.S. Navy was in charge of overseeing our nuke power plants.

Eliminate the entire DOE. Move any worthwhile function to related agency. Like move what was the AEC (nuke generation and weapons manufacturing) to the Department of Defense.

“The Energy Department has a $32 billion annual budget, yet the bulk of its workforce — nearly 100,000 employees — comes from private contractors. The agency has 14,000 government employees.”

Absolutely amazing.

More info, my opinion, but likely on mark:
“with the sole goal of not using any fossil fuels from the US for any energy supply to the US and to deter any new refineries from being built, any new nuclear power plant and absolutely no new pipelines anywhere and no wildlife, even darter snails shall be harmed”

Do we think a new mission is needed?

Nice. Got them to come out of the closet before getting a new head to the department. This refusal is the first step in identifying the moles.

When I was in it, most of the operators were ex-Navy. Some of the NRC were too.

I was a regional manager when a company I worked for went through 7 years of downsizing. Never hated a job so much in my life, the job of terminating an employee. In this case, I would have no regrets for doing it.
