They regulate nukes.
One of several agencies that does so. Those duties can be easily reassigned.
Personally I'd feel a whole lot better if the U.S. Navy was in charge of overseeing our nuke power plants.

When I was in it, most of the operators were ex-Navy. Some of the NRC were too.
